The design of this game is rather adorable, if I can use that word. *laughs* Is it in English or in Japanese? Do you get to play as these Overlords? I know you'll answer more about the game as you play it, but I'm so curious!

This looks like an updated version of some of the greatest (Yet oldest >_>) Games of all time! And yet...I don't remember their names...

Both, obviously. The screenshots are from different version of the game from different countries.
Kind of. Overlords, in the Nippon Ichi games, are rules of different worlds scattered around the universe. They're the ultimate bad asses, kings and queens of their kingdoms, that kinda thing. Makai Kingdom starts off with the lead character, Zetta, accidently blowing up his world and having to rebuild it from scratch. As you start each level, you can choose the "creator" of each new world. You can't actually use them in your party unless you go out of the way to get them though, which is the main driving force for most players to play into level 1000+
Final Fantasy Tactics and Vandel Hearts, maybe? |

I had the game for a while now, but work distraction stopped me from getting into the game properly until recently. I noticed pretty quickly that, instead of playing as the main character of the story, I actually had to develop all my character from scratch. Although it's a strange move not to make the main characters technically playable (without going out of your way) it doesn't impact on the game all that badly. Right now I have six characters of diverse classes, created, with my whole party averaging out at around level 5. I'll post up a more detailed list of my team at a later point. 5 levels down. 1995 to go. Makai Kingdom's level cap is a little lower than the previous games, it seems, but it's still bloody huge! |
