I expect that you're looking at this picture with a mixture of wonder and awe (I call that wondawe). Surely, the advanced physics engine of Halo 3 renders such a phenomenon impossible? Well, I was forging a structure in the new DLC Foundry map, when I accidentally deleted one of the foundation pieces.

Watching in horror, I waited for the whole of my unsaved guard tower to come crashing down around my ears. But it stayed up. Intrigued, I played about with this concept A little more thought led me to the structure in the above picture. Here's how I did it:

First, I took one Double box, and put it upright, like this:

Then, I placed my chosen floor pieces atop the box, in this case, two double wall piece layed on their sides. Then, I simply deleted the supporting double box, leaving the walls suspended in mid air. Exploration of this concept led to this:

I'm going to use the side rooms as bases, to expand the map's game use to assault, capture the flag, and other team-based games. The weapons will mostly be close combat, but a rocket launcher and a sniper rifle or two should be enough to vary the gameplay.

I believe this form of level-building will open up a whole new realm of possibility; on a level like sandtrap, to have a complex network of platforms, mancannons and bridges providing a new angle on the rest of the level will change the gameplay mechanic entirely, while still preserving the vehicular movement because there are no pillars or supports blocking the way.

It's definately a surreal approach to the whole thing.

I don't get many chances to sit down and play custom matches, but I definately look forward to seeing how this turns out.

Let me know when it's up for download. Keep us updated.

yay!

I figured this out on my friends copy, and he flipped shit because he thought I modded it xD but I didn't think it was something big enough to post a dairy on.

Hey, this post is missing images when listed as a news item on the main page. Any ideas?

Because the main site doesn't support BBcode. I could have uploaded them to the article, but they would have been displayed at the bottom of the page and made no sense.

It does, but the img tag is wonky.

I'll see what I can do about that. In the meantime, keep updated on the progress of this.

No screenshots this time, just a little update. The main section of the map is almost finished, and I'm working on the bases. If you've played foundry, you may know that there are two small rooms, linked by a corridor. I've blocked this corridor off and I am using these rooms as the bases for objective games. I'd appreciate help getting it ready for as many different game types as is feasible, if anyone's good with objective and spawn placements. As for weapons, each base will have a couple of battle rifles and maybe a few Smaller weapons, but all bigger ordinance will be located in and around the map.
