Nihilroth's Monster Hunter Freedom 2 Game Diary

Monster Hunter Freedom 2 on the PSP.

The main reason I am doing this as most reviews are very negative of this game but I think it is one of the greatest games ever made. So I will offer unbiased information of the game itself along with my own opinions as I take you through the game one hunt at a time.

Quests
This game revolves around doing quests which come in three types, Gathering, Hunting, and Slaying.
Gathering quests are all about gathering items such as ore or herbs from an area and delivering them back to base camp, really simple compared to the other quests.
Hunting quests are about Hunting the larger boss monsters these are long one on one fights with the games signature monsters.
Slaying quests are about killing larger numbers of the small weaker monsters not as challenging as hunting quests but lazy actions will still result in your death.

Weapons
Naturally in a game about killing monsters there are weapons. Weapons come in 8 different types of which there are hundreds of variations. I'll list each weapon with the manuals description of them.

Sword and Shield:
Boasting quick attacks and allowing the wielder nimble movement, this weapon is well suited for beginners. By upgrading, you can imbue it with special attributes such as poison and paralyze, making this a great weapon for anyone who wants to support a party of hunters.

Duel Blades:
A modified sword design that puts a one handed sword (perfect for quick attacks) in each hand. Though you can not guard while using the duel blades, you can give yourself a temporary boost of super human power and strength by using your stamina to enter demonize mode.

Great Sword:
In power, the great sword surpasses the sword. It can hack through multiple monsters with side slices, but its size and weight make it much slower. After each attack, the wielder is left open momentarily, so wielding one of these skillfully requires practice.

Long Sword:
A refinement of the great sword, the long sword is capable of incredibly quick attacks. Taping into ones spirit by damaging enemies allows true masters to put their heart and soul into using the long sword. However, the weapon itself is incredibly delicate, and cannot be used to guard.

Hammer:
Super heavyweight hammers boast the highest attack power of melee weapons. Their drawbacks are a narrow attack range and no power to guard. Setting out with one of these in hand is high risk; these are the best suited for those who feel a good offense is the best defense.

Hunting Horn:
With power not to be exceeded by a hammer, the hunting horn is a force to be reckoned with. This new weapon allows you to play recitals, which can give status assistance to those fighting with you in the same area. By combining the various notes you can play, you can heal yourself or others, along with causing various other status effects.

Lance:
Made for charging attacks, use the lance's great penetrating power and reach to attack. It's also effective for guarding, and the larger shield absorbs massive damage from monster's attacks. You can even move and attack while keeping your guard up.

Gunlance:
Matches the mobility of a lance with a shelling ability that comes close to the firepower of a bowgun, making it the ultimate weapon to some ardent hunters. Yet, all of this power and ability comes at a cost of low sharpness. The gunlance features a powerful function based on flame breath attacks called wyvern's Fire; however, this special function requires a long recharge time.

Bowgun:
Gunners can equip light or heavy bowguns. Light bowguns have a rapid fire mode; heavy bowguns can access many upgrades that exploit their power. Although the risk in using a bowgun is relatively low when compared to using a melee weapon, you are left open to attack while reloading. Ammunition is limited as well, requiring wielders to take extra care.

Bow:
The bow is superbly mobile and useful in medium and long distance battles. Charge attacks and special arrow coatings combine to make the bow incredibly capable. However, since you can't equip the powerful armour of a blademaster, be careful to stay a safe distance from your targets at all times.

Armour
Armour comes in two kinds the Blademaster and Gunner types. Gunner armour has less defense then blademaster armour as gunners are more focused on long distance battle. All armour has various skill alterations, some abilities are put up while others go down. If you equip armour which gives you a total which is very high or very low it gives you an armour ability which can be anything from increasing attack to lowering defense, making items break easier or increasing healing item effectiveness.

Combining
One of the key points of the Monster Hunter games is the ability to combine items you find in the field to make better items. For example a herb which heals health and a blue mushroom which augments natural properties combined create a potion. There are over 100 combinations possible nearly 200.

Hunting for items
Every item you can buy in shops except armour and weapons can either be found or created from items found in the field, as such you can be totally self sufficient when it comes to items and never have to buy any. Though it is often simple just to buy what you can and focus on making the higher quality items that can not be bought.

Ill cover character creation and starting the game in my next entry.

Bloody hell, that's a lot of details.

Information like that would do well as content, never mind as part of a diary.

I've played the original Monster Hunter on the PlayStation 2, and found it to be a very unique title. I've been reservent about picking up the PSP title though, but this diary is certainly piqueing my interest, and I'm definately interesting in hearing more about the game.

Do keep us updated.

I will try to give as much info as I can, on a side not what I have put doesn't even cover half the game, it is just general info.

You really should get the PSP version it is vastly improved over the console versions. Naturally get MHF2, it's more of a sequel then an expansion as it's in a different village and has a slightly different theme to it as well as the fact all the old weapons have been tweaked and so much more content added.

So if anyone has the first you should get the second.

Plus there is just something about this game that lends itself to the PSP.

On another note MHF2 which is known as MH portable 2nd in Japan is the highest selling PSP game in Japan hitting around the one Million mark I think.

Alright I am going to start my game now so I will cover character creation as well as starting the game.

Character Creation
First off you have the option of importing data (if you have some) from the first MHF game. This imports your characters name you can reset the appearance. Weapons and armour get traded for special tickets depending on their rarity. These make it easier to make some equipment in the game. Inventory items with rarity 1-3 are imported, these items are also the only ones that can be traded in game with other characters anything higher can't. Items too rare to be imported are traded for money in game known as "z"
A special item called "the hero of Kokoto Biography" is added to your itembox. Some extra clothing for piggie is also added.

I am choosing not to import my character and start fresh.
Name, provides you with up to 7 character spaces for your name. Note if you imported a character this is fixed and can't be changed.
Gender, Just the usual two.
Clothing, 4 different types of clothing, these matter little as you'll spend the game wearing various armours.
Face, there are 32 faces to choose from for both genders.
Hairstyle, each gender has 25 hairstyles to choose from.
Hair colour, this operates on the 255 system you have red, green, and blue choose any number from 0 - 255 o create any colour you wish.
Voice, There is a choice of 17 different voices, in this game voices are mostly grunts and yells no actual talking but it still makes a big difference so choose well. Serious point on my friends first game his character who was female sounded like she was having an orgasm every time she was hit so really do choose well.

I am choosing Nihilrof as my name, damn 7 letter limit. A male character with type 1 clothing, face 28 and hairstyle 24. It looks like Sephiroth's hair so I am going with white which is actually more silver on this game. If you go totally black be aware that it kinda looses some of the definition. Finally voice 5 which is the voice I have had since MHF1 and I am not changing now.

After your finished character creation you can choose whether your a beginner or not, this means if you are you are forced to do the training quests. I am not a beginner, then you can save your character.

Saving
Saving this game can be done at home in your bed where you can also exit the game or after a quest whether you succeed, fail or retire.

The Opening
Your character is crossing a mountain and decides to investigate a bunch of dead animals resulting in him picking a fight with Tigrex best described as a bat tiger. He gets thrown off the mountain and winds up in the village where the villagers give him a home, training, money and equipment. Now why don't you see kindness like this any more. Oh by the way you have come to this village to be it's resident Monster Hunter and protect it from attack. This is how the game starts I won't go into detail about what the NPCs actually say too much text lol.

The Village
Pokke Village your home and your base of operations. You start in your home which has a bed, to save and exit the game. A bookshelf filled with information and an item bow which holds armour weapons and items. Later on you can unlock the back room which gives you a kitchen.
Outside there is the entrance to the farm where you can collect so many items between quests, the items regenerate or grow after a quests so check here often. You can upgrade the farm using points called Pokke points you get from doing certain things, more on this later.
There is the armour and weapon store, this is in two parts on lets you buy starting equipment and sell your own the other allows you to create armour, weapons and decorations from your materials gained on quests. It also allows you to upgrade armour and weapons and attach your decorations.
Next is the item store which provides an excellent selection of basic items herbs and potions included. You will see a lot of this place.
After this there is a small old lady next to a big blue rock, she is the village elder and provides all the starting one player only quests. You'll do these before starting on the guild quests.
After her is another small lady with a big bag who buys items and sells various items that change between quests so check with her often.
Next is the guild itself inside you find the treasure hunting quests man, the guild quests ladies another item store and various people to speak to.
Next to the guild is the training school where you can train against the boss monsters alone or in a group the armour and weapons are all set you don't use your own and you have a limited number of items. Meaning it is sometimes harder then the real thing.
That covers the village out side there are a few people to talk to who provide various bits of information.

Getting Started
At least here I go. In your box at home there is one of every type of weapon and the basic set of armour. This armour called Mafumofu is very weak but totally protects you from the cold which is good as the training quests are all on the Snow Mountain level which has cold areas. So I equip the armour and make my choice of weapon.
I am going to be using Sword and Shield on this play through, I also use the Long Sword which includes Katana weapons. So if you have been paying attention you will know I have a character with the same hair style and colour of Sephiroth and I can also use a weapon like his as the Katana's are the same length as a person on this game.

Walking around the village for the first time you will see many people with yellow boxes with ... in them above their heads. This meas they have something new and important to tell you so I will go talk to them. Next to the trading old lady there is piggie click on him and a mini game will start, wait for the music to finish and press x when the ! appears above it's head. Succeed and you will get piggie who will stay in your home. Once before each quests you can try this mini game if you succeed it increases your chances of getting rare items from monsters.

The First Quests
The one star quests with the elder are easy to get you started, three gathering quests and two slaying quests.
Ill keep stuff about gathering quests brief as they are so boring if your not actually doing them. In them you are trying to gather so many of one item. The first three quests are; 5 mountain herbs gathered from certain spots where they grow. 3 Anteka Antlers, Anteka are herbivores easy to kill mostly for meat. 3 popo tongues, these Popo are also herbivores and are the best things on the mountain to hunt for raw meat. meat can be cooked to make food to recover stamina.
The Slaying quests are much more interesting and I'll record some stuff here about them. The first one I am going for is 5 Giaprey. A Giaprey is like a velocoraptor there are four kinds of "prey" creatures they travel in packs and are sometimes lead by leaders called "dromes" in the Giaprey's case Giadromes. None of those on this hunt though which is good as they always travel with a pack and can be quite tricky to handle while still with weak equipment.

My First Hunt - The 5 Giaprey
The goal is to kill the 5 Giaprey, I have 50 minutes which is more then enough and it is in the Snowy mountains level. The cold is no problem with my armour and my sword and shield is quick enough to handle these monsters despite their quick speed and nimble dodging. So Ill have no trouble completing this quickly. When you start a quest you have to leave either by a village exit with the elder or through the back guild hall door for guild quests.
*****
In the quest
ok in any quest you start at base camp where there is a bed to recover health and status on but not stamina. a red box for delivering items on gathering quests or any account items you find on a level these provide money and pokke points when you finish a level. There is also a blue box which provides items for the quests, as you start the game with no money you will be needing these items not matter how good you are as sometimes shit just happens.

So of I go...

Finished in 7 minutes and 15 seconds, longer then I expected but I did take a wrong turn looking for these monsters. They were no challenge for me of course I know this game well, but first players should be careful that they do not get surrounded.
****
Quest completed
Take your reward and be quick, I got 10 needle berries, 2 small monster bones and 2 giaprey hides. as well as 5 scales I carved from them after I killed them.Always remember to carve your kills with the O button to get their materials. When your done you get the reward money, guild points and the the option to save. After which your back in the village here I recomend you put all materials you got into your item bow, inventory space is limited and you don't need this stuff on a quests.

I'll leave this here for now as the sun is getting in my eyes and I can't see anything. If you want any other details of hunts please let me know, just remember I can't type while hunting as it really does require both hands, however unlike the first MHF game this one does have a pause function.

I'm a little bit behind on this at the moment, originally I started a new game to go with this but recently what time I have used on MHF2 has been dedicated to my main game where I am having some difficulties. I am currently on the HR5 quests which are the third to last series of quests in the game and as such a rather difficult under normal circumstances. It does not help that I have decided to change weapons, to the Duel Blades.

It will take a great deal of practice before I am back on track so hopefully I will use some odd quests for training and put them up here.

Because of my already advanced game I have plenty to choose from and currently I am using the Cyclones which are a rather nice pair of scythe like weapons and are the most advanced of the iron path.

Nice to know I am helping.

If I can do something for the site I'd be happy to. Especially if it spreads news about the Monster Hunter games. I've only played the Two freedom games not any of the console ones but the freedom ones are actually the best. Plus I will defiantly be playing MH Frontier if it is released here as it's an MMORPG.

On a side note my current usertitle may seem a tad arrogant but it is actually what I am using on MHF2 atm.

Recently I switched to using Duel Blades and straight away did something incredibly stupid. I used some medium strength weapons and picked a fight with a very high end monster.
I will take this as an opportunity to list the various ranks of the game and the way monster strength is measured.

Not including the Training arena and Treasure hunts quests can be split into three levels.

The Elder Quests
This is where you start the Elder quests are split into several levels starting at star 1 and moving up. The first stars are pretty much tutorial in their ease for those starting the game. Mostly the elder quests are always easier then their guild counterparts there is however one exception which is the final quest the elder gives. A battle in the great arena with two Gold Rajangs. These are very powerful monsters capable of killing me in a single hit when in rage mode and I am wearing some very high end armour. The Elder quests are one player only and the amount of items you are provided with at the start reflects this.

Low Level Guild Quests
The first levels of quests in the guild where hunters will straight away notice the difference in power levels. However you can get the armours you need to do these quests from the elder quests and you really should do so. There are one or two armours you can only get from here but not many. On another note the amount of items you start with is much higher as guild quests can be played with anything from 1 players up to 4. naturally things are easier and more fun with more players as long as your fellow hunters know what they are doing. Noobs who die quickly ruin it for everyone. You have only three lives in a game for if you die three three times you fail a quest. In team matches deaths count for the whole team so if three people all die once it's quest failed.
There are 6 levels of lower guild quests the first four stars are Hunter Rank 1 and then stars five and Six are HR 2 and 3 respectively.

High Guild Quests
This is the pinnacle of the game the materials from these monsters make the best weapons and armours and are the most difficult to gather. This is where I am at the moment.
The high levels encompass HR 4, 5, 6 and the final Urgent quests. I am currently HR 5 about half way to HR6 and I am quite stuck on the difficulty of the quests so I am going against the HR5 Rathalos a powerful Fire Wyvern much the typical dragon type in order to make it's powerful armour.

After a quick match against it without preparing properly which you must always do at this level I believe I am capable of challenging this mighty beast with Duel Blades and so I intend to do so. As always I make use of weapons with an element my prey is weak to.

Weapon attributes
There are two kinds of weapon attributes those that inflict status effects such as Sleep, Poison, or Paralysis and the elementals . There are five elements Fire, Water, Ice, Lightning, Dragon. Unlike most games where every element would have an opposite in MH a monster may have one or more weaknesses to certain elements, For example Rathalos which has strong resistance to both Fire and Lightning is partially weak to Ice and Water and very weak to dragon element.

So wish me luck.

Sweet!!! I used to have the original Monster Hunter for the PS2 with the whole online thing. But I traded all that in to get a Xbox 360. 2 weeks ago i got Monster Hunter Freedom for the PSP and I was surprised to see it was just like the original but with some added features like the Yian Garuga and Kokoto Farm that make it cooler. I was thinking about getting Monster Hunter Freedom 2 for Christmas along with Ace Combat 6 and Guitar Hero 3. But your article on it makes me want to get it more to try out the new long sword and bow weapons plus the Snow Location and the new Monsters!!!

I have to ask, is this anything like the original PS2 title?

And is the demo that came with a game (DMC3 I think) a good representaition of the game?

I ask because I am very interested in the game, but I was not impressed with said demo at all...

oh I remember that demo oh indeed I do, I too was not impressed with it so much but I found it a little interesting.

The Monster Hunter series is large but deceptively so, I will try and sum it up.

The original MH on PS2 is obviously the worst of the series Capcom recognized this and attempted to improve it. Then came MHG a remake of the original that included some higher ranks which meant stronger monsters as well as tweaks to game play and such. Then came the pinnacle of the original MH game.

Monster Hunter Freedom or as it was known in Japan MH Portable this unlike the others is on PSP. It is vastly improved, in terms of gameplay which includes the PSP wireless multilayer trust me this game is perfect on PSP.

Now the game I am here playing is MHF2 or MHP2 in JapaN. The only thing you will recognize from the Demo is the Forest and Hills level as that is the only thing that passes on from the first. MHF2 is obviously a remake or rather a portable add on of MH2 on the PS2. As with the first the PSP version is better, with two new monsters and the same easy to use PSP wireless multiplayer it's simply better.

Don't judge this by the demo which was remember just a demo of a game that was improved three times before it was perfected and this is the improved version of it's sequel.

I recomend this game if you have a PSP if not the 2nd game on PS2 is worth getting they are good games.

I am so hoping the bring MH Frontier out in Europe it's a MH MMORPG. I would so love that.

Is it worth getting MHF first, or should I jump straight to 2?

By: Snake Plissken

Go straight for two it has everything the first one had with the exception that the levels are different and much bigger and better.
Plus some weapons got tweaked for 2 like the Sword and shield can use items while the weapon is drawn if your crouched and great sword has a charge attack. Plus 2 has more weapons such as the bow and long sword.

So defiantly go for 2 there isn't any story your missing out on.

Alright time for an update. I originally started a new game to go through with this diary but have since dropped that and focused on my main game as I am very nearly at the end and need to focus on these difficult hunts.

As I have already mentioned the quests are split into several Hunter Ranks. 6 being the highest rank, I am currently HR5 and am able to do the Urgent quest to become HR6.

This quest is called;

Tremors of the Land.

It is a hunt for not one but two Tigrex one of the worst monsters in the game.

This is a Tigrex:
http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc58/Nihilroth/Tigrex.jpg" class="picture">

It is very fast and strong with some very wide reaching attacks, and when it goes into Rage mode as with all monsters it's speed, attack, and defense all increase. Making it truly fearsome which is only made worse buy the fact I must fight two and they like to follow each other around.

Getting one alone is the only way to fight as both together is beyond difficult even for me and I am good at this game and I use a weapon which has a shield to guard with.

I have tried this quest a few times and the best I have done is managed to kill one but then got trapped in a corner by the other and trampled repeatedly.

So this is what I am focusing on, I have the weapon, armour and items I need to do the quest, just not the luck.

By: Snake Plissken

I did it.

The two Tigrex are now dead their rotting corpses on the Snowy Mountain their bones being bleached by the sun.

I managed to do it in the end with the Long Sword my favorite type of weapon, the LS I used was the True Devil Slicer the best thunder element LS. Thunder being what Tigrex is weak to. I am very happy about beating it with a weapon that has no shield as it shows how much I have improved at this game since back on the first MHF I was very reliant on a shield to survive.

Now I am sticking with the LS, I will continue to collect rare Duel blades and Sword & Shield weapons but I have no need to use them except when I want to mess around with them.

Now I am HR6 and I have some new interesting monsters to fight. I can take on both Silver Rathalos and Gold Rathian which create some of the best armours in the game, I can also take on a lone Rajang which should be interesting.

So here I go another obstacle overcome more challenges now to take.

I love this game.

When I beat the two Tigrex I also went on to defeat the Silver Rathalos and the other Tigrex quest which was just against one. (Thankfully)

I've decided to get the Tigrex armour as it gives the earplug skill which is very useful to anyone with a weapon that can not guard.

On that note the wyverns in the game all have some form of roar some are worse then others, when they roar it temporarily stuns your hunter as he/she covers their ears and cringes. With some monsters you have enough time to dive away after it but with most monsters they attack you straight after. So either a shield to guard the attack, (why this works I do not know) or the armour skill earplug to defend you from it are must haves.

I have the Tigrex Helm and Body and they look very cool. If pics existed I would post some, makes me wish I had a hacked PSP as then I could make my own screenshots.

Small update.

I beat the Gold Rathian just as easily as I defeated the Silver Rathalos and I think more then anything it is due to the fact they take place in a single area.

There are several levels in MH and each one is split into several parts and a wyvern can fly between them so you have to spend some time following them which makes a paintball a must have item as it marks the enemy on the minimap for easy following.
Finding them to begin with at the start of a hunt is the hard part. Though there are ways to help with this as well such as the tracker skill.

Both Silver Sol and Gold Ian are on the Tower level and can only be found on the top level which they never leave. This along with the fact I am very experienced hunting these two creatures and I have a very strong weapon with an element they are weak to means they are both rather easy.

On a side not I got the Tigrex S gauntlets only two more bits to get and it will probably take me either 2 or 3 more Tigrex hunts to do. Oh how I hate Tigrex.

By: Snake Plissken

On: 10:38 Dec 6th, 2007

I now have my full set of Tigrex S armour, I have no more need to fight Tigrex with the exception of I need one more Claw+ to upgrade my Tigrex Long Sword fully. That will be a good way to break in my new armour which has more defense then my last set the Centenaur U armour.

It has some excellent abilities. With a few decorations added to enhance it my armour gives me Earplug, Sword Sharpener Skill, Fast Eater and Auto Tracker.
All this means that a monsters roar does not effect me, I sharpen my weapons much faster, I eat items much faster and I automatically see monsters and their status on the minimap from the start.

I'm currently in a rut, what I have left to kill in HR6 are some seriously hard arse monsters and all the playing I have done recently has left me a little worn down. I won't stop playing though I never do.

I'll mess around for a few days and then go right at them like a psycho.

Anyone thinking of getting this game understand that this game takes a very long time to master and complete, for two main reasons.
You must master whatever weapon you choose to use and then you have to learn the tactics of every single monster in the game and the best way to use your weapon of choice against them.
Every weapon can be used in different ways against each monster. I know of one person who uses a sleep element sword and shield and focuses putting his enemies to sleep and then attacking them with bombs, he has armour skills making his bombs even more powerful and the first hit on a sleeping monster is always more effective.

I started a new game...

I'm in that oh so awful position in games where I am dangerously close to getting bored of it and yet I don't stop playing. What is it about this game that makes me keep playing it even as I hate it?

Would I have it any other way though?

I'm up to HR2 and currently trying to get together some materials to make myself a light Bowgun and see if I can find some skill at using ranged weapons.

I'm also still stuck between trying to decide between Long Sword, Sword & Shield, and Duel Blades.

So I seriously need to do some self exploration on this game.

Alright I am now back on track.

I'm using Sword and Shield and I have got the best of each elemental weapon if not fully upgraded then close. Still in my old armour but with a little help from my friend I am going all the way to the Silver Sol armour which is made from Silver Rathalos and is one of the strongest armours in the game.

Up to HR5 and will soon be back to 6.

I have to ask.. why?

By: Snake Plissken

One reason.

The Shining Wyvern Blade.

It's the most powerful raw damage Sword and Shield in the game. It requires very rare items to make and one of those items is limited in the amount you can get. I accidentally used some of those items making a different weapon and saved my game.

It may seem a bit extreme starting a new game for a single weapon but SWB is more then worth it. It is also my number one favorite weapon.

Alright choosing between DS and SnS can be tricky.

My advice is choose the one you like the most as when it comes to skill your pretty much always practicing on this game.

SnS has quick attacks and a good long combo, you can use items with the weapon out and you have a shield. SnS has the weakest shield in the game as your only supposed to use it in emergencies you should focus mostly on avoiding attacks, but it's perfect for blocking a monsters roar and wind pressure moves if you don't have armour skills to stop them.

DS has also got fast attacks but no defense ability at all no way to guard so that can leave you vulnerable but on the flip side you have faster attacks then SnS and of course there is demonize mode. In this mode wind pressure does not effect you and you can do the Devil's dance combo which is on of the best moves in the game especially if you have an element the monster is weak to.

Both of these weapons have some good status effect choices though SnS is overall way better and both have at least one of every weapon.

On a side note DS is the choice of melee weapon for those psychotically good Japanese players you see owning everything without getting hit once, and I mean that seriously. There is a DS called Eternal Schism I almost have it myself though I use SnS, it has dragon element making it excellent against the Elder dragon enemies which are the most powerful.

Again all I say is choose the one you like more as skill wise you'll learn as you go along and in the end I've seen someone solo both White fatalis and Akantor with both SnS and DS and they are the two top enemies in MHF2.

Thanks for the advice, I think it shall come in handy ^__^

Also, is it worth me getting some form of item creation guide to ensure I get what I need and don't accidently use limited items, or should I learn as I go along?

Well it's your choice really, seeing where paths go for the first time is pretty cool so I recomend you experiment on your own for a while do lots of the elder quests and then when you understand the game better you can decide whether you want to look at any guides.

Me I have the weapon trees for the weapons I use printed out, it gives me there stats and what I need to make them so all I need to do is go get the stuff.

The reason I like to have these is so I know which is the best of each elemental weapon. It is very important to have at least one of each element to take on different monsters as an elemental advantage is excellent and can mean the difference between victory or a time out failure especially when using weaker weapons like SnS.

You should stick with the elder quests until you have decided on your weapon of choice and practiced with it.

HR3 is where things stop being easy. Though not as hard as the high rank quests it is still no place for a beginner.

Have some posts disappeared or has Boa triple posted???

Anyway game wise I ain't playing much atm I really am trying but I have to to say I am very bored of MH right now having played it almost endlessly since the first MHF game came out.

I do intend to continue though but who knows how it will go.

So I am going to basically just be giving out advice to anyone that needs it I know pretty much everything about this game so if you need any help let me know and I will give you as much help as I can.

I only see a double post <_< there was some time between them though.

And cheers for the help, I shall ask if I need it.

In fact, know a good way of defeating the Khezu(sp?) with DS? The elder quest urgent mission one. It wipes me out when it goes a bit nuts at the lower health level.

Im really into the game right now.
but I can see how it would get boring.

I have two characters, One for playing with boa, He's pretty new, and has the hunting horn.
And my other one, wielding dual swords, and the congalala keeps eating my soul and ignoring all my poisoned meat. >_<

Duel Swords one of the hardest weapons to use and Hunting most probably the most difficult to use but so good for it's buffering.
I once saw three guys with hunting horns slaughter an Azure Rathalos and Pink Rathian in about Five minutes.

Thats what I love about this game the fact you can achieve such an amazing level of skill on it.

Alright Kehzu with DS alway good fun.

Hit and Run tactics are the order of the day, only use Demonize and the Devilish dance when it starts a long move like firing lighting across the ground never ever do it when its finishing a move or not seemingly doing anything because it will do its body zap move.

Aside from that one chance never use devilish dance but feel free to use demonize but only attack normally this is a must.

Like I said hit and run, attack when it starts a moe or is landing but get out of there quickly never hang around close to a Kehzu for long unless you have a shield and excellent timing like I do.

I never stray to far from them but then I have been fighting Kehzu for over a year I know it's moves well and thats my other advice, study it. Like every monster in the game it has it's own patterns learn them and act accordingly.

Gunlance makes you a walking tank, get armour abilities that put up Guard, and Guard Up skills and get power and mega juice and just sit back and take everything a monster can throw at you while blasting their face to smithereens.

Word of advice don't become dependent on Auto-Guard it will be the death of you when it fails against harder enemies.

Get the Empress armour made from Lunastra, its 5 star elder quest. It puts up your guard skill a lot and is good armour that fully upgraded could take you all the way to High rank guild.

Funny thing but if you are good enough you can do this game with no armour at all. Now that would be real skill and yes there are those who have done it.

BTW, what items do you only get so many of, so that I don't waste them.

Alright here we go.

Jungle Menace

The quest is to hunt a Yian Kut-Ku, a chicken like Wyvern.

Starting the quest which was in the Jungle area, I quickly grabbed the supply items from the chest. Even though I knew exactly where my prey was I chose instead to to what would be it's third area to stop in. I did this so I could clear the area of lesser enemies and gather their materials for future use or to sell.

Then my prey arrived and the battle begun. My lack of playing recently was obvious as I quickly used all three supplied First Aids and two of my own potions.
I however was using a Long Sword, a weapon that may not be able to guard but has long range, speed and power.
As the battle raged I decided to capture rather then kill my prey. So as my enemies large ears folded back, the sign of a Kut-Ku close to death. I stopped my attack allowing it to stagger off as I headed off to where I knew it would rest.

Ariving in it's lair as it did I unleashed one attack to make it aware of my prescence denying it the sleep to heal it's wounds.

I concentrated on evasion looking for my chance and as it started to paw the ground I quickly laid down my shock trap.
Keeping my trap between us I quickly lead it in, rendering it stunned I threw two tranq bombs leaving the Yian Kut-Ku asleep and myself victorious.

The rewards were small but sometimes that happens. I guess I shouldn't have hit it so hard. XD

Ahh dear piggie if only I could roast and eat you.

It never leaves permanently, though I have no idea how you can piss it off.

What it does is when you get the hearts it slightly increases your chances of getting rare items in the next quest. Obviously the big heart is the best thing to get and you really want to do it before every quest.

Hunting Horns I hat but I've seen them mastered and it is a beautiful thing. My advice is learn the best songs get a damn good horn with stun effect on it then go to town on a monsters head. Remember hitting the head can stun same as a hammer.

As for giant horns your looking at Blonganga possible a higher level one at that.

Tickets only make it easier to gt armour by lowering the amount o materials needed. One they are gone your done and have to get the full mount items to make your armour. There are no unique pieces you need them for so don't worry about not bing able to get anything you still can.

Kehzu Whelps only appear in one spot.

The mining spot at the very top NO.8 there is a small whole you can crawl through it's near the left entrance. It's hard to see but it's there.

Just remember to bring some picks and that the whelps drain health when you have one. They are not carry items but you can have only 1 at a time.

Giadrome skulls are one of th harder items to gt from a Giadrome but still possible at HR1 though you will have better luck getting one in the guild then with the elder so try the first guild quest to hunt one and don't forget to rub Piggie on your way out.

Whenever your after rare items always remember to rub Piggie.
