EvilxBunny's Final Fantasy XI Game Diary

This shall begin as a History of my FFXI life! After this post though, I will be writing up a story of my life in current Vana'diel. I hope that even if you do not enjoy the game, that you will enjoy my stories!
---

Intro
---
As many of you have known, I have been playing FFXI for many years. But, few know how far that goes back. I started on the Japanese beta, by cheating the system a little bit. Also, I did not enjoy it at first. Well I'll explain it all!

Japanese Beta Week
---
I was only in the Beta for one whole week. I made a TaruTaru Black Mage named Alyoor. This was a beta, and was obviously unfinished. Back then, some of the monsters even seemed over-powered. This was not my first experience with MMOs, my first was 'The Realm' which is very different from FFXI. Getting used to it took a little trying. After I got a hang of the interface, which took nearly 10 minutes of fiddling, I soon embarked on my first adventure.

I soon left Windurst out into Saruta-baruta, only to be assaulted by Yagudo (A minion of the Shadow Lord). When the first thing you do is die in an MMO... Well, that doesn't sit well with many people. I gave it another go, learning the battle mechanics was hard, especially when you do not know a lick of Japanese.

Needless to say I was not enjoying myself. Maybe because... I had no clue what I was doing! All the menu's were Jibberish to me. After the beta was over, I still remained apathetic about the game.

PC Release - October 23, 2003
Bace is Born
---
After that experience with the beta, I decided to give the game a shot in english. I bought the game for PC upon release date. I booted up, and started my character. I looked for something not many people would go for, so I could stand out in a crowd. The result was kind of goofy, but I learned to love him.

Now a name... I spent at least 30 minutes thinking of a name. I wanted something easy to remember, so friends can easily spot me. Bace (pronounced Base). This was nice for me, and it was also a code. Corny non-the-less, it was short for Be Ace. I wanted to be the best! Shh, I was 14 at the time. My first job for Bace was Warrior, a suiting beginning job.

Nationality? I got three to choose from.

San d'Oria felt right, me being a Warrior; I felt at home there.

This is certainly going to be an interesting read. Who knows, it might make me appreciate the game a little more.

I'll be keeping my eye on this one.

Bace: The Beginning
---
I got anxious. Starting off on my first adventure. Speed reading through the beginning story; yes, I know that I am a new adventurer. I got my gear, equipped it, and was on my way.

However, I was not serious yet. As I was heading out to slay the evil monsters that plague Vana'diel, I came across a high level Taru-Taru Black Mage. He seemed in a hurry to his destination, so I didn't bother him... Just stalked him. Followed him for a good five minutes before he got to the airship. I did not have an airship pass at the time, otherwise I would have followed him.

After my little stalking maneuver, I quickly ran out to the wild, well prepared for what was ahead of me. I walked out, and slowly began my adventure, inching forward slowly, but still at a steady enough pace to learn the game mechanics. The beginning levels were back-breaking. Not many skills at all to keep me alive, and I had to rely on my brute force.

Lets fast-forward about.. well the first Starlight Celebration. At this time, I changed my job to a Samurai. I used my experience as a Warrior to make that my subjob. I must say Samurai was rather fun, but I still had much to learn. Even at level 30+ I still had a long way ahead of me. You could even say I was way over my head.

The Starlight Celebration was pretty much the first holiday introduced in Vana'diel. Everyone took a break from their duties to participate and have fun in this holiday even. We got our first glimpse of neat, but almost useless event items. Due to how long ago it was, I forgot exactly what we had to do in the event. But, I do got pretty pictures!

As soon as the event was over, we all went back to normal festivities with fond memories. The event was our first sight of how in-depth the world would get. The week afterward my linkshell (of which I forgot the name) took me to defeat the Shadow Lord. To get there, we had to run through Xarcabard. The games lore tells us that the place was assaulted by demons many years ago. The demons destroyed the crag, and for that it is forever cold there. Now, it is a wasteland where the left over demon's reside. Walking through was kind of scary, as I was not confident in my abilities to avoid demon's; I knew nothing about them.

We made it through safely, and reached Castle Zvahl. This is the Shadow Lord's domain. I felt excited. I was about to take a part in ending Vana'diel's suffering. This time, I plan to make sure he stays dead (The story tells us that 20 years ago, he was killed for the first time, but the beastman resurrect him). The walk to his chamber was rather long and dangerous. We had to be stealthy to make it to the top safely. Again, we arrived safely. Walking into the battle zone, we were treated with an amazing cut-scene. Then I was treated to the battle of Shadow Lord.

I was struck with awe. This guy was huge, and he was not shy to show his large sword. This was not an easy battle. Especially since I was sort of under-leveled. We however triumphed, thanks to the three level 75s I had with me. The following cut-scenes made the game seem epic, and it was also the first time I felt for the in-game characters of any MMO I've played.

My Linkshell at the time:

It was organized by level... notice my head poking out the back?

us fooling around a little big after the main picture.

Oh.. and for a comparison. Here is me next to the Shadow Lord... This was a hack I did.. well.. I just switched character models. Shadow Lord was my moogle for awhile.

The end of Bace
---
Shortly after I beat the Shadow Lord, the Chains of Promathia expansion pack was released. Well, this part of my history will be skipped over. I am gonna be talking about this in my real part of my diary. But hey! I'm nice, I'll show you all a preview of Pomyvian...Emptiness.

I was bad at taking pictures then.

Anyway, I did not complete much in Chains of Promathia before my account got hacked. I logged on one day, and bam; no more Bace. I was confused at first, then I contacted customer service. They said that it was logged into at a different IP than usual, and all my items were transferred to a different account. They were able to ban the player, but I did not get my character back. They did however, offer me a month free. I denied it, and decided to take a break.

It sucks that your account got hacked. It certainly seems like you enjoy the game and that's what counts. It seems a bit drab to me, but who knows, I might find it nicer the more in depth you get :P

I like the look of this, might make a nice change from warhammer for a bit.
Just a few questions tho,
How do u get started on this, Do u need to buy a disc or just a game time card?
Do you get to customise your character or do you choose from preset ones?

BTW nice banner:)

erm... you have to buy a gamedisk... i reccomend one of the collections as they have expansions with it.. or most places carry it for $`1.99... not sure in other places... there are no game cards, you HAVE to use a credit card! in european countries there is one you can get off the side.. it works as a debit card and oyu can link it to a bank account, pretty nifty i guess.

There is custamobility, but not much... its mainly choosing what armor, what subjob.. and what merit points you want at the end of the game.
