You have an understanding of light values that makes your delicate shading look polished and professional. Often, when I see people shading on the lighter side of the tone spectrum with pencil, it tends to look awkward- very not so, here. I assume it's a tad darker in person, but I really like this shading style and I think it works with the character well. I think if you experimented with colour it would be very, very beneficial to you. If you can master colour technique as well as your shading, you'd be set. What also helped you is that your form is perfectly drawn. Strong, sure strokes and good anatomy. I'm not one for fanart but this is well done, if undeveloped. |

Thank you ^_^ Pencil shading was something I learned from my middle school art teacher. She really stressed the importance of good pencil shading in our required weekly sketches, and the woman poured her heart into teaching us the proper techiniques for it. I'm still not up to snuff on it, but its something I continue to practice and experiment with.
Coloring work is something I've never been good at, and have nearly given up on. My husband (He's an awesome artist!) has nearly given up on teaching me, too, I think! I've tried crayons, colored pencils, pastels, etc., and I haven't been able to get better with any of them. The only thing I've ever been able to color anything decently with is Photoshop, which unfortunately I have no way to use right now.
Thanks for the compliments. It's especially meaningful to me coming from you, after looking at some of your stuff. ^_^ Mystic Otaku - I'm glad he looks sexy! I'm more for KH2 Riku, though..... |
