At the Tokyo Game Show today, Sony announced that they would be delaying the launch of their Home Online World service for the PS3.
Originally the launch date was set for autumn, but due to much needed improvements Sony have delayed the launch till Spring 2008.
The social networking system in which PS3 owners create their own avatars and socialise with others is a key plan in winning back customers. With Home, Sony hopes to mirror MySpace's and Facebook's success by building an online community.
Kaz Hirai, Sony computer entertainment’s head stated; "This is going to be a worldwide service that needs to offer a wide range of functions required in Japan, USA, Europe and in Asia." His lips however remained tightly sealed concerning the PS3 price cuts. But he did go on to say more software is going to be introduced to attract customers.
To wipe more salt in Sony’s wound, the company now trails third in the console wars behind the XBox 360, and the Nintendo Wii. The NPD group suggests in August Nintendo sold 404,000 consoles, Microsoft sold 227,000 XBox 360's and Sony sold a petty 131,000.

Home looks cool, but I'm glad Sony is taking the time to get it right. |

They better get this right, honestly. Sony can't afford many more fumbles. |
