TOKYO - It's been a difficult few years for Sony's controller, with the lack of Dual Shock a potential factor in the massive damage to the company's successes of late, but the Tokyo Game Show had some good news in store for fans today, when Sony Computer Entertainment president Kaz Hirai announced that Dual Shock would be returning to our hands soon, in the form of the Dual Shock 3.
UPDATE: Sony has released a
list of Dual Shock 3 compatible PS3 games!
The good news: The Dual Shock 3 controller with come with both dual shock rumble and tilt-fuctionality. The bad news: The Dual Shock 3 won't come packaged with the PlayStation 3, at least not initially, and will have to be bought seperately for the forseeable future.
At this point in time, Sony hasn't revealed any pricing plans for the Dual Shock 3 in any territories.
The addition of Dual Shock to the PS3 controller gives it a comfortable weight more in line with the Dual Shock 2, although the rmuble is a touch weaker than the PS2's force feedback.
Interestingly enough, a number of game booths at the Tokyo Game Show were already equip with Dual Shock 3 controllers attached, with the games supporting full Dual Shock compatibility, including big name titles such as the new Ratchet and Clank, and Metal Gear Solid 4, which means that the industry must have already been aware of the launch of this feature, and have done a suprisingly good job of keeping it quiet.

About... Wait a minute, this is the trap Sony usually lays. I want to see what the other heads of Sony will say about the PS3 *paranoia mode*. The Dual Shock 3 is pretty good news, considering that is one of the many reasons why people want to play their PS2s aside good games and cheap prices. If they have anything going for them, it's is they are so easily underestimated and this is why. |

I can't remember what console games are like WITHOUT the vibrate-y bits, and it boggles my mind that Sony wouldn't include it by default. Just... what the hell?
"Massive damage..." I love you. |

They didn't incluse it in the first place due a court case with Imersion who own the Patent for rumble in controlles, as they didn't ask permision/pay royalties for the PS1/2. |
