Unique as Wii Fit may be, its certainly an oddity to see a video game focused on healthiness and fitness (not something many of us take pride in taking good care of) being such a hot product with consumers, but apparently that's the case.

This is the sort of thing you just don't see every day. As an Irishman myself, I'm devastated to not have had the chance to see this, but the launch of Mario Kart Wii over here was met with one of the most pathos-heavy games-related images ever; the rather stra...

Electronic Arts confirmed a set release date for Rock Band today... at least for the Xbox 360 anyway; the Xbox 360 version of Rock Band in Europe on 23rd May. It will be a "timed exclusive" for Microsoft; the PS3, PS2 and Wii versions will not appear until to appear on European store shelves until "later this summer".

What a turnaround of fortunes this has turn out to be. A survey of over 2,000 Australian retailers has discovered that the country's game-sellers are less than stellar about the Xbox 360. According to a recent GameRush report, PS3 and Wii are being viewed as the main...

Famed Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu recently published a list of their highest scored games of the year. What's interesting is the abundance of Xbox 360 titles appearing on the list, despite the lack of support for the machine in Japan.

February's NPD results were released today, and things are looking good for the industry, with sales of all consoles up from January. The DS regained its top spot, followed by the impossible to find Wii, Sony's PS2, the PS3, the Xbox 360, and the PSP.

I'm exited to have the ol' rumble back in town. Subsequently I've been doing research on why the Rumble feature wasn't added earlier. It is the source of many a flamewar online and it is actually a subject that involves another next-gen console.. the Xbox 360.

Ok, I'm posting this article to let everyone know about a new game that seems to have some forethought put into it! This game (X-Blades)is being released on ALL of the next gen consoles as well as PC! I hope this is something everyone can get exited about! I love games that come out for multiple platforms as it helps EVERYONE, regardless of console choice, to become enthusiastic for the same title! .... it also helps weed out fanboys!

Alas, European Wii owners, this is a plight that is shared amongst us all. It seems like Nintendo have decided they won't be releasing their rare slice of traditional gaming goodness onto our shores until August. The announcement was short and simple, during a 1UP po...

Sales figures are in, and since the game's Jan 31 launch in Japan it has sold over 1 million copies. That, for those of you who haven't been paying attention, officially makes it the fastest selling Wii game in that console's history.

Manhunt 2 is offically the most controversial game in video game history. In June 2007 it was banned by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) due to its unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone. It is now at the centre of a continous legal row that is defini...

Super Smash Bros Brawl has been anticipated for a long time. By pretty much every gamer... ever. The fact that the game has sold over 820,000 copies in it's first week on sale shouldn't really come as any shock, then.

Figures shift around a bit this week; the Wii has shot well into first place, likely due to the release of Super Smash Brother Brawl in the region (jealous), whilst the Nintendo DS has surprisingly slipped into third place.

It seems that Japanese gaming mag Famitsu is getting all sorts of details this month, first Street Fighter IV gets 6 new fighters and now they've gone and revealed details for the new Mario Kart for the Wii.

It lends itself to few surprises, really. The DS Lite has always had a dominant place in the Japanese sales charts, though the PSP's rising popularity in the east sees it slowly creeping up on Nintendo's diminutive handheld, with the Wii sitting comfortably in third place.

A few days ago, the UK High Court decided that the Video Appeals Committee, which had recently granted the game an 18-certificate release in the country, must reconsider its decision.

A few days ago, Nintendo compiled a complete list of upcoming releases for the Nintendo DS and the Wii up to the end of Summer. Those hoping for the Wii to step away from it's casual gaming focus and embrace "traditional" gaming will be sadly disappointed though. It looks like casual gaming is here to stay.

A recent US study shows playing computer games particularly on the Nintendo Wii can help improve a surgeon's performance in the operating theatre. Wii games that require delicate movements with the Wii remote are said to be the most effective. The control required to play these games acts as a warm up before surgeons have to perform similar movements later on a patients body.

You may have heard about a group of guys over at Cameronbanga.com who tried to beat Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Windwaker, and Twilight Princess in fourty-eight hours. During that event they were taking donations which all went to Child's Play. If you didn't hear, they failed to complete all of the games due to technical and water temple issues. All was not lost as they raised $1,200 for Child's Play.

If you are from Japan this is a no-brainer. Nintendo ... right? Well that depends on who you ask. If you ask pretty much anyone on the planet, you can expect to hear that Nintendo DID in fact create the motion sensing technology for the Wii. However if you ask Patrick Gos...

Interestingly enough, while we're all sitting around waiting for concrete gameplay details (beyond the knowledge that it will be pseudo-2D), a lot of gamers have been taking an interest in the game's colourful, unique art-style, especially that displayed in the intro.

Manhunt 2 has constantly been refused a rating in the UK by the British Board of Film Classification, effectively banning it from release, by Rockstar are still determined to see it hit UK store shelves. Thanks to the common sense of the Video Appeals Committee, it might actually happen this time.

Hosted once again by a celebrity who has nothing to do with the video game industry, Samuel L. Jackson, the Spike TV Video Game Awards or 2007 mark the fifth year for the constantly embarrassing event. It has also, by nature of being backed by an entire cable network, unfortunately become the planet's most visible game-awards ceremony, and it is all the worse off for it.

News hit us this week that Sony has halved the price of the software development kit that designers use to make games for its PlayStation 3. If you, like the rest of the game industry thought Sony had no cards left, you were wrong! They certainly saved this one up their sleeve and a few more are a possibility considering Sony's recent nature.

Any gamer worth their cents will admit that the last month has been an incredibly generous one for us. Quality titles have been appearing left right and centre, but it's Mario who has stolen the show this time, pushing sales of over 500,000 copies in its first week alone.

It looks like the violence and gore weren't the only things cut from Manhunt 2; according to former employee of the now defunct Rockstar Vienna, Jurie Horneman, in his blog, the work of his co-workers on the game were left on the editing table as well, with more than 55 names missing from the credits in the retail version of the game.

Manhunt 2 has had a turbulent history. First it was banned, then California Senator Leland Yee cried when it was unbanned, it's still banned in the UK, and recently a Sony worker claimed responsibility for the Manhunt 2 leak. Now, retail chain Target are pulling the game from its store shelves completely.

It seems that fortunes for Sony and the PS3 may be starting to look up a bit. The sometimes undeservedly troubled console has recently seen a peak in sales in Europe, that for the first time has seen it outsell it's closer competitor, the Xbox 360.

Posted by Dragonfly 193 days ago
It certainly seems like Nintendo are keeping busy expanding the range and the scope of their gaming machines lately, much like the competition does. Along announcing this expansion into "practical" features for the console, the company has also dated not just the recently announced Game Gift Channel, but another new Wii Channel as well.

This news story is likely to seem a little surreal. Why? Because in the next few moments, you will witness the unthinkable; a universally recognised industry name complimenting the competition!

Whilst Microsoft releases new console variants and dropping console prices in Japan, and Sony do much the same with price drops, the House of Mario seems more than content to sit on its laurel and let the Wii sell itself. And as if to prove a point, Nintendo has confirmed that there are no plans ahead for a Wii price drop in the near future.

Nintendo claims its profit has doubled in the last six months due to the Wii's success. This will certainly help boost up the Japanese firms net profit of 132.4 billion yen ($1.16bn/£506m) from 54.4 billion yen the year before.
