Today, Nintendo finally confirmed the release date for the highly anticipated Mario Kart Wii in Europe; the game will be hitting European shelves on April 11.

Super Smash Bros Brawl has been anticipated for a long time. By pretty much every gamer... ever. The fact that the game has sold over 820,000 copies in it's first week on sale shouldn't really come as any shock, then.

News hit us this week that Sony has halved the price of the software development kit that designers use to make games for its PlayStation 3. If you, like the rest of the game industry thought Sony had no cards left, you were wrong! They certainly saved this one up their sleeve and a few more are a possibility considering Sony's recent nature.

It looks like the violence and gore weren't the only things cut from Manhunt 2; according to former employee of the now defunct Rockstar Vienna, Jurie Horneman, in his blog, the work of his co-workers on the game were left on the editing table as well, with more than 55 names missing from the credits in the retail version of the game.



In a move that has taken many video game fans in general, and Super Smash Bros. fans in particular by complete surprise, Nintendo has announced that the newest iteration in the famous fighting series, slated for a February 08 release, will include the ability to design and share custom levels.



Manhunt 2 has had a turbulent history. First it was banned, then California Senator Leland Yee cried when it was unbanned, it's still banned in the UK, and recently a Sony worker claimed responsibility for the Manhunt 2 leak. Now, retail chain Target are pulling the game from its store shelves completely.



It seems that fortunes for Sony and the PS3 may be starting to look up a bit. The sometimes undeservedly troubled console has recently seen a peak in sales in Europe, that for the first time has seen it outsell it's closer competitor, the Xbox 360.



It certainly seems like Nintendo are keeping busy expanding the range and the scope of their gaming machines lately, much like the competition does. Along announcing this expansion into "practical" features for the console, the company has also dated not just the recently announced Game Gift Channel, but another new Wii Channel as well.



This news story is likely to seem a little surreal. Why? Because in the next few moments, you will witness the unthinkable; a universally recognised industry name complimenting the competition!

Whilst Microsoft releases new console variants and dropping console prices in Japan, and Sony do much the same with price drops, the House of Mario seems more than content to sit on its laurel and let the Wii sell itself. And as if to prove a point, Nintendo has confirmed that there are no plans ahead for a Wii price drop in the near future.



Nintendo claims its profit has doubled in the last six months due to the Wii's success. This will certainly help boost up the Japanese firms net profit of 132.4 billion yen ($1.16bn/£506m) from 54.4 billion yen the year before.



A spokesman for Rockstar games has put up a statement claiming that a former employee for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe was responsible for leaking what was an unrated play test version of the game.
