Leipziger Messe's announced its official awards today for last week's Games Convention in Leipzig. LittleBigPlanet, Mirror's Edge and Spore took the top awards.
EA seems to have been the big winner this year as well, taking four of the nine awards. Hopefull...
Well, you won't be needing a powerhouse in order to play Spore, but it looks like your PC from your birthday five years ago won't quite do the job either.
Now to celebrate Spore being released in September, Maxis decided to give players a taste of the game by releasing two versions of the game's creature creator. One as a free demo with a quarter of the content and a full creator for around $25.
After many years in the making. False news, false hopes, false dates; Maxis finally confirms an official release date for their highly anticipated life simulation game, Spore.
Spore is to be released on September 7 for the DS, PC, Macs, and Mobile Phones.
In a detailed conference call yesterday, Electronic Arts offered a miniscule slice of information about the release date of Wight Wright's Spore. Vague would be an understatement.
Newcomer REfanchris recently brought up the subject of games creation, curious about how to process of conceiving and developing truly a game comes together.
A number of anecdotes on this subject were recently posted on GameSpot, from some of the most respected names in the industry, discussing just how how difficult even simply pitching a concept for a game idea can be.
The Leipzig Games Convention was kicked off the other day with a much-awaited look at Will Wright’s life-simulation game Spore. In a 30-minute demonstration the Sims creator showed the details of the game, which was announced in 2005 and is due for early 2008.
Will Wright's Spore is one game certainly deserving of the title "Long Overdue." Hitting on seven years in the making so far, from conception to developement, the hugely ambitious title has seen its release date pushed back again and again, with a current release date projected for late 2008 / early 2009.
As it prepares to lauch the newest installments of Madden, Fifa, Tiger Woods, Need for Speed, Fight Night... etc. etc. etc., Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello steps forward and gets on his soapbox, criticizing the industry for rehashing ideas and games over and over, with little innovation, whilst everyone else is in on the joke.
The Sims creator has planned to take the game further than any in his current franchise, which basically assured Spore’s success for the 2007 holiday season.
Sadly, assumptions that the game would be ready for this year are incorrect.
Will Wright’s ambition with upcoming Spore is a little higher. Instead of prescribing to the usual game formula, his goal is to make the player feel like a god. He has achieved this to a limited degree in such past series as Sim City and The Sims. Spore plans to be infinitely larger, but Wright describes the difficulties in attaining the infinite.
