A recent PricewaterhouseCoopers study has predicted that online gaming revenues will hit a monstrous $68.3 billion by 2012. A recent Gamespot piece claims these figure will exceed all other forms of online media business aside from online advertising.

Permadeath has somewhat become of a craze in Massively Multi-player Online Games (MMOG) as of late. Some game's (such as Dofus) have adapted Hardcore servers, which accept permadeath as a feature. MMOG's which have no permadeath have guilds that willingly delete their characters upon death.
There are those in the mental health profession seeking to add video gaming addiction to the official list of psychological / addictive disorders. When I first heard of this, my first reaction was to shrug it off as yet another in a long line of anti-gaming smear campaigns.
As I thought it over, though, I found myself agreeing with them.
