Announced completely out of the blue by Konami yesterday, the MGS4 Database will be a downloadable, standalone program for the PS3 detailing the entire history and knowledge-base of the Metal Gear franchise.

Depending on what part of the world you live, Metal Gear Solid 4 will either be in your hands waiting to be played, just about to be put on store shelves, or a few hours away from release, but regardless…. it’s finally here!



Recent reports from consumers have indicated that Wal-Mart is already selling early copies of Metal Gear Solid 4 in select stores, breaking the official street date of June 12. Hideo Kojima doesn't seem particularly fussed though.

If the recent ad on gaming retail giant Gamestop's website is to be believed, the much anticipated final instalment of Hideo Kojima's action/stealth franchise, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, will be available to PS3 owners on June 17, 2008.



For awhile now, it has been several rumours that Metal Gear Solid 4 will not be a PlayStation 3 exclusive, and will be released on the Xbox 360. Even with Konami and Sony reconfirming it as a PS3 exclusive, many believe that Konami will need to release the game on the Xbox 360, to get a decent profit on the release date.



Well, we all knew it was coming, but the worst has happened. The PS3's long needed triple A exclusive, Metal Gear Solid 4 has been delayed, yet again, until at least the second quarter of 2008. The official statement from Konami Japan reads:



This was Sony's big one, guys. With direct presentation by the creator of the Metal Gear franchise himself, Hideo Kojima, Konami surprised everyone at E3 2007 by unveiling a completely new, English language trailer video for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots at Sony's Press Conference!



It's a good year for Konami stock investors as Konami report record profits for the fiscal year, but fans may not be rejoicing so much, as recent news suggest that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriot may not be touching down on gaming shores until some time in 2008.
