We knew know that that Rock Band and Guitar Hero would end up butting heads at some point, but few of us probably imagined it would be occur in quite the fashion it was, as Activision and Harmonix have come to blows over compatibility issues with the guitar peripherals used in each other's games.

Rock Band will feature pre-selected three-song packs for download, similar to Guitar Hero, but will cost less; $5.49 (440 Microsoft points on Xbox Live). Initial Songs will also be available to download individually for $1.99.

Two weeks ago, Rock Band developers Harmonix revealed Rock Band's main tracklist, consisting of over 50 songs, but word on the game's bonus tracks was quiet until yesterday. Harmonix have finally seen fit to release information on the game's bonus tracks

Wannabe rockers holding out until November 23 for the release of multi-peripherial music-game Rock Band in the US can relax their vice like grip on their controllers a little. After much speculation that the eagerly anticipated rhythm game Rock Band would have a price point of $200, MTV announced that the bundle, which includes a guitar controller (wireless for the PS3, wired for 360), microphone, drumkit and game, will retail for the reasonable amount of $169.99.

As if the updated track list for Rock Band announced by EA at Leipzig today wasn't enough to get the legions of Guitar Hero junkies all in a twist, it was also announced that the sure to be a mega hit game Rock Band, which was originally only slated for the PS3 and Xbox 360, will also make an appearance on the Playstation 2.

Guitar Hero, the phenomenally fun smash hit rhythm game series, has now had its third installment unveiled today by Activision. Apart from the updated graphics you'd expect with the current gen consoles, a new and much awaited twist has been added to the title: online multiplayer.

He doesn't mention which platform, so while the Wii is the most likely target, don't put it past them to release a tappy little DS version either. No dates or other information yet, but that can't be too far off. So, whaddya think? Logical extension of the brand name, or shameless milking of an over-extended franchise?

Harmonix have been busy on a new music based game, and the details became available yesterday. Rock Band is aiming to be the most elaborate and expansive peripheral-based music games to ever set foot on the market, and it may not as lofty a claim as it sounds, when you look at the details.

As far as game launch stunts go... this was one of the more interesting one. With the birth of Guitar Hero II, came the death of the Air Guitar. Harmonix held a funeral, to mourn the tragic loss.

It looks like MTV wasn’t supposed to share nearly all the song names they saw though, and probably after a firm warning from developer Harmonix, they were quick to remove/sensor all the new Guitar Hero II songs from the video.
