It looks like Square Enix has been busier than we thought. According to the official Game Developers Conference website, Square Enix will be hosting a debate about the technology behind the Final Fantasy Fantasy series, and will be discussing a new MMORPG the company has in the works.

To say that Final Fantasy fans are anticipating Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core would be something of an understatement. The game is already out in Japan and has done very well in sales, but Square Enix have finally relieved fan's anticipations by announcing the title's official release in the US, along with the rest of their release schedule for 2008.

For a long time, many an Australian gamer could tell you how long it would take to get many games on the store shelves and at times how impossible it was to find something aside from Final Fantasy. Now that may change as Ubisoft, the creators behind the Prince of Persia and Splinter Cell series have entered a deal with Square Enix to help with the distributions for both Australia and New Zealand.

It's a series that has been with the gaming community since the earliest days, and has grown up alongside many of us. From the earliest Cid, to the revolution of the PS1 era, to the many incarnations of the current generation, few franchises have endured with gamers for so long, and Final Fantasy Festival, an independent endeavour supported by Square Enix themselves, looks towards celebrating 20 years of history.

As part of Square's "Ivalice Alliance", Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions is the second title in Square Enix's series of title's based on the world of Ivalice, and a remake of the original Final Fantasy Tactics which saw release on the original PlayStation, and is due out in the US on October 9th

We chart the upcoming releases in the US for next week, dating October 7th - 12th. It's a suprisingly quiet release week leading up to the Christmas holidays, but a number of quality titles still made this week's list, including Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions for the PSP, and Half Life 2: The Orange Box for the PC and Xbox 360.

Being one of Japan's biggest names, it's no surprise that Square Enix would be out in style at the Tokyo Game Show, and the company didn't disappoint, with Final Fantasy titles galore, the announcement of three new installments of the Kingdom Hearts series, and even plans for a new Parasite Eve game.

The Tokyo Game Show, Japan's seminal anual gaming event, is fast approaching, and Japan's largest game developer is set to mark its usual mark at the event; the company has released a full list of titles set to appear at the event, but the company's flagship title, Final Fantasy XIII, has simple been listed as "undecided."

In the eyes of Square Enix fans, the last year has definately been a generous one for them, but the company isn't quite as happy. A strong revenue year for Square Enix has seen record earnings, but increase expenses have seen the company's profits fall quite significantly, which may see the company's flagship title delayed until 2008.

Square Enix held a public press conference at its corporate headquarters in Tokyo, Japan today, in preparation for the upcoming Square Enix Party, in which it detailed information on a large number of new titles currently in the works, as GameSpot reported today, as well as announcing a completely new franchise, The Last Remnant.

Square Enix have recently announced a new Final Fantasy title set to be released on the PSP to celebrate the serie's 20th Aniversary... they're just not telling us anything about it. The official website for the game recently launched, which has given us a small tidbit of information; it's name. The title will be called "Final Fantasy Dissidia".

According to Square Enix, the company has so much faith in the upcoming 13th installment of the numerical series of Final Fantasy titles that they strongly expect us to still be playing it ten years down the line.

Previously this year, Square Enix announced that it would be remaking Final Fantasy I & II for the PSP. Though exciting to admirers of the franchise around the world, the publisher revealed the games only for the Japanese market. However, American fans need not be jealous, as yesterday Square declared the remastered pair of games will be released in the US in the summer.
