It's an interesting time for the video game market. Despite all the strengths of high definition graphics and more powerful consoles, one of the most eagerly awaited titles of this year is a cute, 2-D side-scrolling game. Patapon for the PSP is a unique game that appeals to me on a few different levels. Firstly, the stylized graphics are done very well and are a great quality that makes you forget you are playing a 2D scroll-style game almost instantly.

Sony is close to finishing development of their PS3 addon; PlayTV, which allows users to watch and record digital tv. The addon is a small black box which connects to a USB port on the machine. It has an aerial port in (and a pass through port) to pick up digital terrestrial signals.

Rumors have been flying and sources have been talking. But now it seems a lot more official when it was revealed from an internal, Best Buy memo, that “The 80GB version of the PS3 is going closeout and won’t be replaced at this time. It will come off the planogram on Jan. 28. The 60GB version should already be gone from stores. Only the 40GB version of PS3 will be sold in Best Buy stores at this time.”

It's a possibility according to Albert Penello, Microsoft's group marketing manager who admitted that should the Sony born, HD format win out this generation's "Beta-war" that the staunch supporter of the HD DVD format would consider a Blu-Ray add on to the Xbox 360.

It has yet to be confirmed by Sony directly, and should only be considered a rumour for now, but according to release schedules information that was printed in this month's issue US gaming magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly, the release date of PS exclusive LittleBigPlanet's has been pushed back to fall 2008.

For awhile now, it has been several rumours that Metal Gear Solid 4 will not be a PlayStation 3 exclusive, and will be released on the Xbox 360. Even with Konami and Sony reconfirming it as a PS3 exclusive, many believe that Konami will need to release the game on the Xbox 360, to get a decent profit on the release date.

News hit us this week that Sony has halved the price of the software development kit that designers use to make games for its PlayStation 3. If you, like the rest of the game industry thought Sony had no cards left, you were wrong!
