ICO - Walkthrough - The West Side < Back                ICO - Walkthrough - The West Side

Turn left and walk down the pathway. Have them turn left at the corner and walk down the next pathway until they encounter an area containing another set of Idol Doors. For now all that can be done is to go through the Idol Doors and out into the West Bridge area. Run along the bridge and take a right turn this time and continue on toward the West Arena. Have Yorda open the Idol Doors and enter. Have Ico climb up the ladder on the left and then bring Yorda up after him. Head up the stairs on the left side and jump and cut the rope to open the door below. Head up the stairs on the opposite side and jump and cut the other door loose, which will trigger the appearance of quite a few shadow demons. However you should not have much trouble with them as Ico has the mace. Get him down the stairs in a hurry, the portal is near the center of the wall that supports the two doorways on either side. Lead Yorda into the room on the left and proceed to the stone couch and save your game. Exchange the mace for a staff and climb the ladder to the right of the save point. Pull the lever to open the small circles on the previously mentioned wall. Light the staff from the torch, start down the stairs, then jump off backwards. Run and light the two smaller circles to open the larger one. You may wish to return and save at this point.

ICO - Walktrhough - West Arena

If you take a look around, you'll spy another cylinder down below the stone couch area. Head down the ladder and up onto it, then call Yorda down and help her up. After she arrives, the stairs rise up to the next set of circles. Note that once the larger one opens, flying spirit demons will come in through the window and a portal will have opened up near the cylinder (just as it did in the east arena) with more spirit demons materializing from it. Climb the stairs, walk over to the lever, and pull it to open the two smaller circles. Light the staff from the nearby torch and then light the two circles to open the larger circle. You should be sufficiently battle hardened now that you can have Ico fight them off with the staff. While it's a bit risky, you can also have him go after the mace and try to get back down and pull Yorda out before darkness overtakes him and then dissipate them up in style. After Ico has exterminated every last vermin, it would be a very good idea to save now. Regardless take Yorda up the wide stairs and up into and through the larger circle, then outside to the West Reflector.

Walk out to the reflector and you should notice that it's not properly oriented. Push either arm clockwise such that the reflector locks into place and faces toward the building. Now head to the right and climb the ladder, bringing Yorda up along with Ico so that she remains nearby. Head through the door with her. Have Ico jump over to the chain and climb it. Start to the right and head up the stairs and around. Remember to jump over the gap where the drawbridge will be lowered. Have Ico slash the ropes as he encounters them. It appears to be a bit easier to do so with the mace. Once the first one is lowered, continue on to the opposite side and release the other drawbridge in a like manner. Continue on (just as you did in the East Arena) and walk on the pressure switch and then through the door. Run over to the lever and pull it to stop the running water. Run back around the three sides, turn the last corner and go down the stairs. Head to the chain and climb back down to Yorda. Run down the circular incline and drop off the edge and continue to the stone couch and save your game.

Walk over to the staffs and sword leaning against the nearby wall and exchange the mace for a staff. Have Ico lead Yorda over to the ladder, then climb down and call Yorda after him. He should next head up the wide stairs, calling to Yorda once or twice as he goes. Have him walk to the large circular window and climb up onto its lower rim. Call to Yorda and he'll turn and drop to his knees to lend a hand to help her up. Take Yorda out through the window and once on the ground they need to turn to the right and go to the ladder and climb it. Once on the top, send them through the doorway and on inside until Ico is even with the chain. Have him detach from Yorda and run towards the chain and jump on to it. Once he's done this, have him climb to the top. Note the boarded up door! Head to the right and then walk right out onto and across the lowered drawbridge into the next room. Walk over to the left corner and pick up one of the bombs. Note the gap in the fencing! Walk back out of the room, carrying the bomb, and back across the drawbridge. Turn left and walk to the boarded up door. Drop the bomb near the door. Run over to the other end of the ledge and have Ico light his staff from the torch, then run back to the bomb and light it. He should then quickly back away for some distance just for good measure. Boom goes the bomb and blows the boards blocking the door to bits.

Walk back toward the now open door but climb back down the chain to greet Yorda. Take her back down the wide stairs, then up the ladder and over to the stone couch and save your game. Continue out the door and head across the room to the left and go through the doorway into the now dry waterway. Have them both climb up it and proceed out the door. Head to the left and walk through the newly opened doorway. Walk to the right, then turn right and walk across the drawbridge and into the next room again, although this time together. Walk straight ahead to the gap in the fencing and a magic bridge section will appear. Walk together out onto that one and the next one appears. Continue across to the Idol Doors and Yorda will open them. Pass through, then walk to the right and pull the lever to open the two small circles below. Turn and walk down to the other end. Get Yorda on the elevator, then have Ico go to the torch and light it, then quickly get on the elevator too. It'll descend automatically and Ico should then immediately get off and move to the right and light the first small circle. This may take more than one try. Once it's lit, relight the staff from there and head over to the other small circle and light it. This causes the larger circle above to open and the sunlight to stream through from the reflector on over to the orbs above the west gate section and power them up. They then cause the west gate to be enabled and the doorway above the entrance to the pathway above the west gate is now open as is the entrance door to the West Arena, that they entered through. Return to the room on the left side containing the stone couch and have Ico retrieve his mace. Then have them both sit on the stone couch and save your game.
