ICO - Walkthrough - The Water Tower < Back                ICO - Walkthrough - The Water Tower

Take Yorda and cross the bridge, then head up the stairs. Walk through and then along the path with the fence on the left until Ico and Yorda come to the bridge. Have them continue along the bridge (turning a corner in the process), until they've circled around and are headed back towards the drawbridge. Once past the glare of the sunlight, they'll soon come to a path back up into the mountain, which they should take. When they get to the end of it, they need to drop down onto the floor below, then walk to the right. Have them climb the two sets of stairs and then walk over to and on to the odd looking elevator. Have Ico continue to push the crank in a counter-clockwise direction as they slowly rise. When the camera angle changes, he'll stop pushing and move away from the crank. Just reposition him and have him continue cranking until they reach the top. Get off of the elevator and take Yorda to the left to the stone couch and save your game.

Ico now has to leave Yorda here temporarily and run and jump to the left across the gap. He then turns and calls Yorda over and pulls her up. He now needs to leave her for a longer time span. Have him drop down three levels on the left to the platform below. Next have him jump up onto the cable and use it to cross the chasm. Have him drop off once he's reached relative safety (i.e. can go no farther). Then take a step or two around the corner to the left and climb up the two ledges and onto the top to arrive at the main area. Make a right turn and head straight along the planking to the short and broken ladder heading down on the right. Climb onto it and jump off backwards onto the platform behind. Climb the wooden beams to the top of the tower. Jump across to the longer platform and walk to the chain at the other end. Have him descend to the bottom of the chain (turning him to face toward or away from the raised drawbridge on the way) so that he's hanging from the end. Then press the 'Circle' button to cause him to swing back and forth four or more times. At the end of an arc, when he's nearest the drawbridge, press the 'Triangle' button to have him jump onto the drawbridge (if you press the 'X' button, he'll drop short of the bridge and you get to climb up the tower again), which will cause it to lower towards Yorda. Now he can walk to the end of the lowered drawbridge and call to Yorda to have her jump over so he can catch her and pull her up onto the drawbridge.

Walk back past the short broken ladder and drop down onto the platform with the torch. Note the faint imprint of the continuation of the walkway, that heads toward the water tower, on the platform. Head left and climb up into the small storage room containing two sticks and eight bombs. Have Ico exchange his mace for a wooden staff and pick up a bomb and carry it near the edge of the platform that faces the water tower. Position the bomb at the far edge (given the current camera view) of the imprint. Then go to the torch and light the end of the staff. Walk to the bomb and light its fuse, then pick it up ('Circle' button) and throw it toward the water tower ('Circle' button again plus push the left mini-joystick in the direction you want him to throw it). If Ico's aimed well, it'll explode and cause the water tower to fall over, resulting in a makeshift bridge to the next area. If it's not so good, he gets to practice it some more. Be sure to exchange the staff for the mace in the storeroom before climbing back up on to the entry path and then heading across the fallen water tower.

Once across the new bridge, head to the left. Have Ico climb the chain and then follow the wooden path to the right. Turn left where it crosses and push the block off the end. Have Ico retrace his steps back off the wooden path, then continue on to the ladder and climb down. Walk over toward the closed Idol Doors and push the block against the wall below the wooden structures. Climb up, then walk to the left and pull the switch on the wall, which causes the chain that's suspended from the right wooden structure to be moved out between the end of the wooden cross pathway and the structure supporting the turnstile, which Ico needs to get onto. Have him drop back down on the box and then onto the floor. Then head back to the ladder and climb it. Walk back out onto the wooden cross structure toward the hanging chain past the end. Have him run and jump onto the chain. Note the wooden structure directly behind him. Have Ico drop down the chain until his hands are about even with the last horizontal bar in the wooden structure and facing the turnstile. Get him swinging really well (it'll take five or more swings), then have him jump at the end of an arc and he'll catch the edge of the structure that supports the turnstile. Have him get on top and go to the turnstile and push it counter-clockwise two full revolutions to release a large block, which swings out into position.

Now, jump back onto the chain. Position Ico at the same elevation on the chain as he was when he leapt off in the opposite direction and facing the wooden platform. Get a good swing going again, then jump to the wooden platform at the end of an arc closest to it. Walk out onto the arm of the cross that points back toward where this area was originally entered from. Have Ico walk to the end, hang, and drop to the floor below to rejoin Yorda. Have Ico jump onto the suspended box, then jump back as Yorda is being or soon will be attacked by a couple of shadow demons and the portal is near the chain up to the wooden cross pathway. Dispatch them quickly, then have him jump back onto the box and call Yorda over. He should next jump onto the ledge with the Idol Doors and again call and help Yorda over. Have Yorda open the Idol Doors and then pass on through them into the upper level of the Graveyard area.
