Consumed with grief, he resigned the Kingsguard and joined the VKP's darkest and most dangerous faction; The Dangerous Criminal Task Force. The Riskbreakers. Since then, Ashley has carried out orders of a most violent nature without question. Ashley appears to have forsaken his soul, rendering him the ultimate killing machine. However, Ashley is the last known person to have visited Duke Bardorba, the night of his death, thus the VKP established Ashley as the prime suspect in the Duke's murder.

Sydney Losstarot

A charismatic man who has offered his limbs to the gods. Sydney Losstarot is described by his followers; the 'Keepers of the Word' as being devastatingly handsome. His charisma is such that almost anyone he speaks to is captivated by him. However, beyond the androgynous beauty and the allure of his charisma is a man who wields the enigmatic power known as the 'Dark.' Credited as the founder of the Mullenkamp Cult, the cult was supported by a mysterious benefactor; Duke Bardorba. In an unexpected move, Sydney attacked the Duke's manor in the Graylands and met the Riskbreaker, Ashley Riot. Intrigued by what he 'heard' in Ashley's soul, Sydney fled to Lea Monde and waited for the Riskbreaker.

Romeo Guildenstern

A knight of tremendous power, rumoured to be "The Cardinal's Chosen." Guildenstern graduated his academy and quickly rose in rank, due to the Cardinal's favour, and was eventually selected to lead the Crimson Blades. Guildenstern is refined and elegant in manners, but from his speech and habits one can paint a picture of a man to whom the ends justify the means. On the night the Mullenkamp Cult moved on Duke Bardorba's manor, Guildenstern led his Crimson Blades to capture Sydney by order of the Cardinal. Strangely, the VKP was never notified. Guildenstern set the manor ablaze only to discover Sydney had fled to Lea Monde. Guildenstern immediately moved his soldiers in pursuit. Interestingly, Guildenstern seems to be adept in (and has no qualms using) the 'heretical powers' of the 'Dark.'

Callo Merlose

A top-notch Inquisitor who balances both brains and beauty. Callo Merlose, while young, is considered by her peers to be darkly exotic and highly intelligent. Having received a degree in psychology from the Academy, she is considered an expert on the criminal and the religious psyches. After graduation, she was accepted into VKP and assigned to the Information Analysis Unit. Her time there has been short, but she observes with a keen mind and highly logical. Callo was assigned to support Ashley during the Bardorba Manor incident, and thus had no choice but to follow when he left for Lea Monde. Shortly after arriving, she was captured by Syndey, but has since returned alive. She only ever filed one report regarding the incident, titled "Observations in the Wine Cellar."

Jan Rosencrantz

An enigmatic man with a peculiar philosophy. Rosencrantz first appears to Ashley at Lea Monde, claiming to be a Riskbreaker sent to replace Callo Merlose. While highly possible that he was a Riskbreaker, it seemed unlikely to Ashley that the VKP had dispatched Rosencrantz; they had never conducted mid-mission changes. In truth, Rosencrantz is allied to several factions, and at some point was a Riskbreaker with ties to Ashley's past. He seems to be double-crossing several people, but skillfully evades any attempts from others to decipher his true intentions. Rosencrantz has a great deal of knowledge regarding the Mullenkamp Cult's inner workings, and is said to have the ability to render the 'Dark' useless. There is evidence, while scant, linking him to Duke Bardorba.

John Hardin

A commander of the Mullenkamp Cult seeking to atone for past misdeeds. Hardin is Sydney Losstarot's confidante and right hand man. Unlike many 'Keepers of the Word', Hardin was never bewitched by Sydney's charm. His decision to join the cult was a conscious one. Hardin, a former police officer, is extremely distrustful of a world full of injustice. He was attacted to the cult's anti-establishment preahcings. Hardin and Sydney led the attack on Bardorba Manor together. Put in charge of the hostages, Hardin developed a strange bond with Joshua, the young son of the Duke, who he kidnapped and took to Lea Monde. Although a fierce looking warrior, Hardin is an unusally friendly captor to both Joshua and Callo.

Joshua Corinne Bardorba

A young child shocked into silence. Conceived while the Duke was in his twilight years, Joshua is an angelic little boy, affectionately referred to by the Duke as his 'light.' Joshua was taken hostage by John Hardin during the Mullenkamp Cult's occupation of the manor, and the only one left alive after the place was burned by the Crimson Blades. No doubt Sydney planned to force the Duke into some course of action by kidnapping his only child. Joshua has formed an unlikely bond with his kidnapper, Hardin. While fully aware that Hardin has forcibly removed him from his home, Joshua regards the man with the naive innocence only a child is capable of.

Aldous Byron Bardorba

A war hero doomed to rot. Duke Bardorba participated actively in the Valendian Civil War 36 years ago, recognised as bringing and end to the conflict. He used his newfound public adoration to manipulate and hold sway over Valendian politics. Charged with monitoring the 'Dark' and keeping related incidents away from public attention, it was often rumoured that Bardorba could manipulate the 'Dark'. Having since retired for reasons transcending his ailing health, the Duke's influence over Parliament had hardly diminished. Surviving the occupation of his Manor, Bardorba escaped to a secondary residence, abondong his family and servants. Cynical of his cowardice, he claims he deserves to "rot alive." One week after the Mullenkamp Cult occupation, Bardorba was found killed in his bed, having been visited by Riskbreaker Ashley Riot that night.

Samantha

An unlikely warrior blinded by love. While Samantha has earned the rank of commander honestly, she is often belittled by her comrades and even her lover, Guildenstern, for her sheltered and naive views of reality. Following Guildenstern with blind and unrelenting devotion, Samantha's naivety may eventually lead to her downfall.

Duane

A pacifist with ambitions to eradicate heresy. Duane, a cleric considered more priestly than the other commanders, joined the Crimson Blade infiltration of Lea Monde in order to exorcise the city of the 'Dark.' While ultimately a pacifist, he is considered merciless by his suboridnates. Duane lacks the skills to handle himself in a physical fight, but his offensive magicks is seemingly more than enough to keep him alive.

Grissom

An overzealous priest with outrageous ambition. Grissom is the younger of Duane, and shares his brother's ambition. However, Grissom is seemingly more naive than his older brother, placing all his faith in God and himself. He believes it is his personal mission to purify the 'Dark.' Grissom is far more polite and levelheaded than Duane, though does not share his brother's gift for magicks.

Tieger

An intelligent man with a high regard of the bonds of friendship. Tieger is an incredibly powerful warrior, wielding his heavy axe with relative ease. He is very quick-witted, and incredibly proud of his position within the Crimson Blades. Tieger carries himself with a dignified moral code in any situation.

Neesa

A reliable and cordial commander. Often underestimated because of her sex, Neesa is a force to be reckoned with. She swings her heavy mace with great ease, and has no doubt in her mind when in battle. Following orders without question, Neesa is blunt, to the point, and very levelheaded.

Tia Riot

An elegant woman with raidant blonde hair. Tia is the wife who Ashley continues to see in his memories. They were married while Ashley was still assigned to the Kingsguard. Tragically, she was slain mercilessly by thugs during a picnic with her husband and son.

Marco Riot

Ashley's only son and child by Tia, Marco continues to haunt Ashley's memories. The boy's relationship with his 'papa' was in incredibly close one. In a tragic turn of events, an arrow pierced Marco's when the Riot family was attacked during a picnic.

Cardinal Batistum

A holy man with a dark agenda. Cardinal Batistum, in charge of the Iocus Church, sends his Crimson Blades led by Romeo Guildenstern to capture Sydney Losstarot. However, his pursuit of Sydney is not rooted in the divine beliefs of the church but rather his own twisted lust for power.

Steward LeSait

One of several enigmatic leaders of the VKP. Steward LeSait is present at Ashley Riot's mission briefing regarding Mullenkamp's seizure of Duke Bardorba's manor. Rosencrantz claimes to have been sent by the Steward during the infiltration of Lea Monde, but the evidence supporting this is scant.

Inquisitor Heldricht

One of several enigmatic leaders of the VKP. Inquistor Heldricht is a professional woman with a penchant for smoking. Present at Ashley Riot's mission briefing, she was is responsible for sending Callo Merlose to assist at Duke Bardorba's manor and the infiltration of Lea Monde.

Mullenkamp

The ancient dancer-priestess of Kildea, and sorceress. Her dancing was said to have been extremely captivating and snakelike while blades balance above her. Legend says that the earthquake which devstated Lea Monde and the 'Dark' which plagues the city are direct results of Mullenkamp's dabbling in evil magicks.
