Commendation

The Nintendo DS has been commended for it's success in offering a unique approach to gaming whilst still managing to be financially lucrative and incredibly popular amongst gamers, which goes strongly against the prominent belief that innovative ideas in the gaming industry can't sell.

Criticisms

All of Nintendo's past handhelds have been capable of playing games from all previous generations of handheld machines by the company, from the GameBoy onwards. The Nintendo DS is the first exception to this, being able to play GameBoy Advance games only.
