The tougher Wii are, the harder Wii fall

It's a dilemma faced by the gaming nation... the fear and worry brought upon us all by the curse that is... the weak straps on the Wii-Mote. Nintendo finally decides to own up.

What is this magical idea that will save many of us from the fear that our TVs, windows and loved ones may be spared the wrath of an overactive game of Wii Sports, or an overexcited co-op on Wii-Play?

Nintendo have come up with a solution to the problem that nobody could have predicted... tougher straps.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission's reported, in their typical anal manner, that Nintendo has only received three reports of injuries from straps breaking, all of which, not surprisingly, happened while gamers were playing Wii Sports. None required medical attention.

On a more serious note, Nintendo is offering replacement straps for all Wii owners. Details can be found at http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/strapreplace.jsp

"Finally decides to own up" as if this is a big long term issue hahaha. Anyway, Nintendo's pretty awesome for thickening their straps. They don't look much different but it's impressive to see a company spend millions just for something like that.

Glad I waited. Both of my friends that have Wii's have broken theirs. No processor and harddrive issues, but every machine will have SOME flaw when it releases I suppose.

I've played Wii Sports and Red Steel all day when I got it. o.o Not once did my Wiimote go flying out of my hand, so technically I didn't even need to be wearing the strap. Just. Grip. The. Thing. (And don't even think that you're Venus Williams, swinging it that hard is lethal)

I'm happily going to keep my original strap concidering it's doing it's job just fine.

I have to say I laughed pretty hard when I first read the news articles about it. All my friends and I had played Wii sports with all of our gusto and never had a problem. Perhaps just lucky. Anyways, I found it slightly amusing browsing the website that popped up subsequently about it, wiihaveaproblem.com, or something like that.
