So, who REALLY invented the Wii?

If you are from Japan this is a no-brainer. Nintendo ... right? Well that depends on who you ask. If you ask pretty much anyone on the planet, you can expect to hear that Nintendo DID in fact create the motion sensing technology for the Wii.

However if you ask Patrick Goschy of Chicago you might hear otherwise.

In the late 90's Patrick worked for Midway and created a proprietary motion sensing system that he connected to a Sega Dreamcast. Patrick has several U.S. pattents on this motion-sensing technology and claims that when he was laid off from Midway in 2000 the ideas were sold to Nintendo.

Sounds to me like just another example of big companies running roughshod
over the people who do all the dirty work. I think this man is due royalties
from both Midway and Nintendo. You look at the video of the man's invention
from 8 years back, and you have to say "yeah, that's very Wii like."

Granted, his controllers were wired, but he stated that plans were made for
a wireless iteration of his technology. At least the Dreamcast had some
games, unlike the Wii. I hope Mr. Gochy finds work in the gaming industry
again, but if I were him, I'd pull a Bill Gates and license any tech I created
out to companies as opposed to simply handing it over on a silver platter.
Big money will screw you every chance it gets.

Owned; the article said that the wii referenced Gochy's patent in it's list of technoligies. That should be worth royalties, but of course, conditions of employment are anything you create while in the employ of the company is the property of the company, not you.

I can't see him winning any legal case, but it is a sh*tty deal.

I always wondered how Nintendo could jump from the Gamecube (which was not a very impressive machine itself) to the Wii. All the Wii has is the innovative controller, the graphics are crap compared to games for other systems coming out now.

Now I know.

Nintendo won't last very long as a console-maker if this kind of shit is all they have.

Stealing technology is the oldest trick in the book. I cant get mad over it, its one of those things that depend on how well you play the game... if you dont play the game well, your destined to fail and be wicked bummed.

You gotta do what the dude who invented the segway did, hide in in your basement till its done, then bring it out as your own and not funded by anyone but yourself. Patent, and sell the shiz out of it.

He didnt play the game well enough, i wish him luck in getting what he deserves, but to be honest, everyone knows big buisness is out to screw the little guy, so the little guy has to get some spikes on his head to save himself.
