Forum regular Applesauce Ninja recently shared his thoughts on the subject of addictive gaming becoming a classified disorder. in the US, where the American Medical Association hopes to see it classified as a legimate disorder.

Since our last story, The American Psychiatric Association has revealed that, after careful examination of the subject and it's validity, addictive gaming is not going to be officially classified as a addictive disorder, declining to endorse the move at it's latest meeting.

"There is nothing here to suggest that this is a complex physiological disease state akin to alcoholism or other substance abuse disorders, and it doesn't have to have the word addiction attached to it," Dr. Stuart Gitlow, of the American Society of Addiction Medicine explained to the Reuter news service recently.

Although the move to classify addictive gaming as a legitimate disorder has been dropped, whether to people's satisfaction or disappointment, the subject will be reviewed by The APA when it meets again to revive its manual... in 2012.
