Guitar Heroes help Charity

Celebrities are well known for doing their bit for charity, but now the gaming industry is giving it a go too. Together they have created 30 custom Guitar Hero controllers to help the charity MusiCares by auctioning them off on eBay.

This partnership has come about thanks to Activision and Red Bull. Musical giants such as Nickelback and My chemical Romance as well as other celebrities are each designing their own versions of the Guitar Hero controller. Designs range from the rather simple covering it in signatures, to Tony Hawk’s obscure contribution of a skateboard attached to the neck of the controller. Although the majority have been given brand spanking new paint jobs that reflect the ideas of their creators.

If you’re interested in digging into you pockets for a good cause, then check out the eBay listings to check them all out. . Bidding prices start at $100 and the auction will run until the 13th of April.

If you do bid, you’ll be helping MusiCares, a charity that supports musicians in times of financial, medical and personal needs. If any of you want to find out more about the charity then check out their website.

This is a very nice to hear. Although I do know that musicians often do contribute profits to charities from time to time it's always great to know that more effort is being made. There's no reason why video games can be intergreated into this effort. *nods*

I've always found celebrity "charity" a bit tacky, and usually quite ego stroking on their parts, but I can't fault this particular idea for it's creativity at least.

If I had a credit card, that skateboard guitar would be mine! :o

I frankly don't care how much ego-stroking is being done; as long as the money is being channelled into the a worthy cause I'm cool with it. I don't care how much ass-kissing is involved. A bit of pride is nothing compared to the good charity does do.
