This is one part of the internet I hate; vitriolic fanboys with nothing better to do with their time than telling the creators how the do the job, especially when the creators are already doing a perfectly good one. They'll likely the same people who threatened to cancel their accounts on World of Warcraft because the size of Orc Shoulders was changed, or something as equally ridiculous. |

I have to admit, I do see what they're saying with the screen shots... The originals do lack a certain amount of atmosphere and aesthetic. But with anything like this, you don't notice until you start making comparisons. But having said this, it's entirely a matter of opinion. If you want to play a game that looks EXACTLY like a whole load of other MMOs then you can see the point that they're trying to make. I think that's a pretty stupid attitude to have though, because really, what's the point of having such a big market if all the games are going to be the same? Generally though, these people are coming across as being spoilt children. The game has only just been announced. |

With the first picture the original looks better but in the second I think the altered version does look better. What the hell I'm going with the idiot fans on this one Diablo should be dark and sinister not a bright day with a happy jaunt across a bright bridge. Idiot fans aside here is a point were new looks in games loose the style which fans love and that means loosing fans. |

nope I personally think the fanboys have something here... wizard in general has been moving towards that less realistic to more colorful schemes with the success of WoW. When playing the WC rts games you had this colorful fantasy game that was fun and funny, then SC rts games gave you an intermediate between the more cartoon-ed style and the more realistic style, and then diablo gave you (morso diablo 2 than 1) this very dark, very realistic game look and style. The company looks like its moving everything towards that more warcraft style, but the diablo look if more that of the first diablo game, than the diablo 2 style. |

I think this is the dumbest thing I have heard. A couple things going on here. One is Diablo fans trying to get attention because WoW stole the spotlight from Diablo and Starcraft for that matter. So in retaliation they proceed to complain about how, since WoW, Blizzard doesn't give a **** about them. Honestly, that is just jealousy. Second thing is that this is really an aesthetic issue. Some people may be more enticed by the sepia filter and some people may like the original screen cap. Really this is just all opinion. One thing many have to consider is this not the same exact team who made previous Diablos. Do I think it's going to suck? I don't know. Do I think it will be the best piece of software ever launched? No. The same thing is happening with Fallout 3. Of course thats a whole studio shift, but much the same has happened with Blizzard. Point being that both these games are not out yet so complaining about little things like feel and mood are really useless. Development changes on a dime so it's better to wait till the finished product is out. Thats when you can really critique something. |

Art direction rarely changes once it has been agreed upon because it influences the texture artists, modelers and animators. Splunking through D1 and D2 right now, I can understand where these guys are coming from. It's difficult to ignore the WoW influence in this art style. Edit: Curses, the two interior screenshots are missing from here. a hunting I will go. Edit: Something like what this Necromancer put together. Proclick. |
