World Series of Video Games Is No More

Games Media Properties announced that the World Series of Video Games (WSVG) is now dead and gone.

The league, in which top tier contestants competed in such games as Fight Night Round 3, Guitar Hero II, and Quake 4, was forced to fold due to lack of revenue, mostly because of overly extensive television hype and the huge size of the events.

There were three remaining stops on the tour, which included Los Angeles, London, and Sweden, but all were canceled as well.

It's a shame to lose this league, really, as it could really have helped shine a light on competitive gaming as a viable spectator sport.

To be honest, I'm grateful for it.

Their intentions were good, but the execution was a joke. Gaming culture is an identity unto itself, and trying to emulate popular American sports cuture was a stupid move, and an insult to most gamers outside of America.

The only way competitive video gaming is going to be taken seriously is when it defines it's own indentity.

I think Im happy.
I like the idea of competative gaming, but....everyone seems to think it's about PC FPS and Counterstrike. When it's much MORE than that.

I really can't say it any more beautifully than you've said it right here. When I heard the word "World Series of Video Games" in the title of this (it was new to me), this whole rush of emotions flooded me and you seem to have captured them perfectly here. :o
