With the departure of Paul W.S. Andersonn (known for such movies as Mortal Kombat and Event Horizon) someone else has taken over the role of director of the Castlevania film scheduled out in late 2008: Sylvain White, associated with such films as I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer.
Aside for the seven digit figure White was eager to take on the role of director because he is a fan of the series. He has this to say of the series, “I was attracted by the chance to make a dark, epic period movie that almost has an anime feel to it.” There will be a rewrite in the script by both White and Anderson to align with the change in directors.
In addition, White has been given the rights to use the Frank Miller graphic novel Ronin in a movie, something that’s a rarity in itself. Perhaps this will be an indication of the quality of the Castlevania film.

Having never played any that I can remember, I've always heard Castlevania games are pretty good (mostly from you :P) so news of a film is quite exciting, if fairly predictable considering the current trend of game to film conversions.
I don't know anything of the director, but if he can pull this off well then I'll be quite excited to see it, and maybe search out some of his other work. |

Personally, I think it's good they found a director who's experienced the games first hand, and who knows what the fans of the games is looking for.
I'm looking forward to this movie. Even more so now that I know that Anderson isn't going to be involved in the directing process. |
