The world will be a little more Blu

In my last article I talked about how the format war was encroaching on the console war, well now it seems that the format war is all but over, this time Sony proves to be the victor with their format, Blu Ray.
HD-DVD's downfall began with multiple companies siding with Sony, most recently Disney announcing they would be going exclusively Blu, and the final killing blow came from Toshiba, one of the primary makers of HD-DVDs that they will no longer be making or marketing the high definition format disks.
So what does this mean for gamers and buyers? For gamers the change over will probably go for the large part unnoticed. As for buyers on the market for a new system will probably look to the PlayStation3 which comes standard with a Blu-Ray player and for the cost, buyers would be getting more bang for their buck going with a PlayStation3 than just a Blu-Ray player as both are going for roughly the same price. As for Microsoft, console owners will no longer be forking over the extra $180 for the HD-DVD add on and the company might be looking more into the Blu-Ray add on for their console.

No real suprise TBH.
Being built into the PS3 always gave Blu-ray an advantage. To be honest, I won't care until I have a HD tv anyway :P |

I am rather happy about this being a big Sony fan.
I guess having the PS3 using the Blu-Ray gave it an edge but I think there must have been a lot of behind doors deals to get companies like Disney siding with Sony.
Well I think this very very good news. |

Whooo, go Sony! Not that I really care what format my movies are, as long as I can watch them. Any good thing for Sony is a good thing for me though, as I have stuck firmly with them in the past and plan on continuing to do so. |
