Format wars and Console wars are neither nothing new but both play a big deal in our preferences for movies, music, and games. So with the Format war entering and becoming a part of the Console war, it begs the question; how big and should the Format war be affecting the Console war?

So far the console that stands to be affected the most as of late is the Xbox360. Though exclusively supporting HD-DVD, the 360 can only play HD-DVDs VIA an add-on while the PlayStation 3 comes with a standard Blu-Ray Player and with buyers using personal preference in picking out their systems, it could mean gaming quality standing aside for multimedia quality.

So far Microsoft isn't worried, taking the long held belief of gamers keeping their system at the top in markets but they have noticed Blu-Ray's success and HD's current spiraling out. Even so far as hinting at the possibility of a Blu-Ray add on should the Sony born format prove the victor.

Over all the future of the Xbox360 is far from being in danger but with the importance of multi-media features crossing over and starting to overlap gaming performance, one has to wonder if a day will come when it's not the games that sell the system.

By: Mobius Zero On: 01:22 Feb 18th, 2008 Offline	I believe it is as it has made games more expensive and make it more about buying the Blu-Ray in the system rather than the system itself. However, the Blu-Ray Discs do hold more storage and allow for more to be done with it. The reason why the format war has become part of the console war is because of Sony, eight years ago putting a DVD player in the PS2 and using DVDs as their means of gaming format and this helped the PS2 sell better overall help beat it's competition in Last Gens. War such as the Dreamcast. Now it has become more like a virus to the gamer's pocketbooks as it costs them extra money. One of the things I give Nintendo kudos on, is that during this console war, is staying the hell out of it and benefiting those who want to get into the Next Generation Console War without kicking people in the nuts for their wallet for all the extra money :lol: .

I dont like having to pay over the odds for certain things...but it happens. I would love to see MS using Blu-Ray, just generally because games would be made bigger and the like. <3

I'm really, really hoping things shift to cartridges some day; I think if they could be created economically, then they would last longer. Disc scratches suck.
