Few games could cause such a frenzy over such an incident, but Square Enix's Final Fantasy XII appears to be one of them, having been leaked to torrent site over three weeks earlier than its intended release date on American shores. We try to separate fact from rumour.

As of October 2nd, rumours began spreading about leaked torrents of review copies of the NTSC version of Final Fantasy XII online. Though doubt of the legitimacy of these torrents was doubted at first, they were later confirmed to be true. The download is also confirmed to be the full English version, and playable in its entirety.

Rumours also abounded that this leak was intentional on the part of the company to help promote the game, but this has been contradicted by the fact that Square Enix have been extensively assertive in it's legal proceeding concerning these illegal file downloads, demanding many sites remove them, with the usual threats of legal actions if they don't. The majority of file-sharing sites have been compliant with Square Enix's "request".

Before anyone asks... no, we aren't going to supply you with links to torrents for the game. If you want them that badly, you'll be able to find them yourself easily enough. Video Game Chat as an entity doesn't condone the illegal downloading of licensed products... but we're not your parents, so we can hardly stop you if you choose to do so.

I'm not really surprised this happened to be honest. such a hotly anticipated game was bound to be leaked sooner or later.

And I really don't think they would have leaked it themselves. I mean, its got plenty of public interest in the game already, and anymore would just be pointless overkill

How could a PC version be leaked? It's a PS2 game.

It's just the image file (the file that contains all the data in a format the PS2 can read). With a DVD-writter, all you would have to do is copy it to a non-rewritable DVD and you're sorted.

Though it's only in NTSC (American consoles) format, to the best of my knowledge.

i thought they mightve done a pc version as well like they did with 7 and 8. alas i guess not
