You know what surprises me more than any of the stuff you mentioned? The PlayStation 2. How the hell did that manage to shift so many units?! |

I mostly blame Devil May Cry 4 for this even though it came out on both the 360 and PS3 and many people love the game apparently despite some reviewers out there. For the PS3, this can only get better with MGS4 and maybe some other hit titles. |

I would have to say the numbers reflect a couple things. One is Sony's strategy of not abandoning the PS2 as viable cheaper platform (even if it's not next gen). I think Blu-Ray winning the format war is another reason. The 360 being third among next gen consoles I think is what Microsoft has been bringing upon it's self. With the holiday sales came many systems which still do either come DOA or red ring (granted the numbers are not huge but enough to be very concerned about, including the fact that this is two years in unsolved). The holiday outage of Live contributed to it as well. These two main factors among many PSP and PS3 big title games coming out has got people thinking of alternative systems to purchase. I used to hear people walk in constantly asking about Wii's in my local GameStop but anymore the next thing I hear after "No" is "How about PS3's?" Microsoft's excuse of "low inventory" for low sales numbers I think is complete and udder nonsense. I can walk in anywhere and get a 360. They also went out of the way to mention specific months they would be low on consoles. This could mean they have a card up their sleeve. Could be big change in pricing, hardware, or just saying they will have consoles when GTA IV and all the other big games hit this summer. I think this is definitely the turn around that Sony fans have been looking forward to as the big games come out. From now till fall should be interesting. With GTA IV coming out for both systems, Ninja Gaiden II for the 360, and MGS4 for the PS3 among other games it should be interesting. I will be watching the numbers. |

I agree. I have gained some seriousness about the PS3 as a system as well. They're starting to look up and that's good for them; another year and there *will* be tons more people with them. And more games. Woo. |

You should all come to Norway and buy the Wiis we've got here. I think the sales of Wii consoles sort of flatlined once the initial fun had passed.

This will be a continuing trend as people who want a Blu Ray player will buy a PS3 for the fact that it is $70 dearer, but you can play games on it. Sony did the exact same thing last generation with the PS2. I do laugh at how the PS2 still, after 8 years of life, is outselling the PS3. It has to be the most successful console ever. Unfortunately for MS, the PS3 is finally starting to pick up steam. It'll roll it home this generation, again. Go the Wii. Pure profit for nintendo. |

Microsoft stated that there is a "shortage" in its consoles which is to blame for the low sales. I would agree... but not for the reason this statement would imply. I don't think it's shortage is by any means similar to the Wii and it's demand-based cosole scarcity. I think it has more to do with Microsoft's customer support handing out new consoles more and more due to the fact that the refurb consoles seemed to break faster than the broken console originally sent in (I can attest to this on 2 separate occasions... grrrrr). The falcon-chipped models are doing FAR better -with about a 17% RROD rate in comparison to the 30-40% rate of the previous model- but many of them can't be counted as a "sale" because they go right from production and into the hands of customer supports shipping department. |

The biggest suprise to me is the PSP. It is such a stunning little console which deserves to sell far more, as it is in Japan (second only to the Wii over there). People need to see the light!!!

The PSP is selling in Japan because of Crisis Core. End.
