E3 is dead. Long live GamePro Expo

Written By WoI 625 days ago
News Category: Industry News
After a series of rather convoluted, bloated and confusing business deals and staff reshufflings, it appears that the traditional form of E3 will apparently "live on", in the form of the newly founded GamePro Expo event.

A rather deceptive comment, as this newly announced tradeshow is not directly connected to the E3 or ESA in any direct fashion. International Data Group, a company responsible for hosting many tradeshows around the world, and a publisher of many technology orientated magazine, seem to want to fill the void left by the dissolvment of E3 as a tradeshow.

The GamePro (yes, the gaming magazine) Expo will the held in the same venue as previous E3 conventions, the Los Angeles Convention Center, and is hoping to attract as many as 20,00 people when it opens its door for the first time on the 18th, 19th, and 20th of October, 2007.

The news coincides with the departure of ESA exec Mary Dolaher, who joined IDG's rank this week, along with a number of other employees from ESA who clearly weren't too happy with the changes made to E3 a couple of months back.

The most important question here though is... will it take off? Only time will answer that one.

This will definitely be good news for everyone in the gaming community all around. It'll probably take a couple of years to figure out where it's headed, but at we'll have something to look forward to every year now.

My Christmas has returned! ;-; *tears of joy*

Seriously, this is great news. I was left in disappointment when I first heard of E3's death, or "downsizing", because E3 was really like a holiday for me. May would roll around, and I'd jump in excitement to learn about the new information about games/consoles/handhelds.

Now that it's back, in a new form, I have something to look forward to.

I share the exact sentiment with Somasu. For every self respecting gamer, E3 should be like christmas.

And i knew E3 would reincarnate in some form. Why would they just totally ditch R3 in its entirety ?? Its THE biggest video gaming event in the world. Someone was always going to fill the void.
