Should a single screenshot garner this much interest? Probably not, but considering the game in question, the level of excitement amongst the gaming community is understandable.

Ever since Capcom announced Street Fighter IV, the question on everyone's lips was what format the gameplay would take. Would it 2D, or 3D? Now that Capcom have decided to let loose some details on the game, the answer seems to be... it's both.

According the Capcom, Street Fighter 4 will be using a polygon engine, but will be entirely 2D in gameplay, and will employ the standard 6 button system used in all Street Fighter games.

Street Fighter IV seems to be intentionally pushing the nostalgia buttons; the location in the screenshot above is clearly Chun-Li's stage from Street Fighter 2, but Capcom have stated there there will be new locations, moves and gameplay features.

Chun-Li and Dhalsim are confirmed to be joining series regulars Ryu and Ken in Street Fighter 4, but there's no word on whether we'll see any familiar faces from Street Fighter I, Street Fighter 3, or Street Fighter Alpha, or the inclusion of any completely new character.

Sadly, there's also no word on what format the game will appear on, though it stands to reason that the PS3 and the 360 will end up being the eventual home of the newest entrant into the Street Fighter series.

Now, for the slow, agonising wait for more details...

hmmm... this game puzzles me. Its the only game so far ive had doubts on. And im afarid the doubts are big.

Has SF actually shown any clear cut progression from the first game?

I was looking at 2 more they have on CVG today, and I'm not so sure on it... it might just be the fact CVG compresses them, but they kinda don't look so good.

Oh heavens yes, for starters, SF1 was an unplayable mess. SF2 redefined the genre/huge influence due to it's great controls, depth, wonderful characters and replayability. SF3 was an even bigger step forward to the series.

As for SF4, I'm liking the way it's looking but I want Guile back!!
