Square Enix unveiling new MMORPG at GDC

It looks like Square Enix has been busier than we thought. According to the official Game Developers Conference website, Square Enix will be hosting a debate about the technology behind the Final Fantasy Fantasy series, and will be discussing a new MMORPG the company has in the works.

"Taku Murata is the head of R&D of Square Enix. Under his leadership, Square Enix is now developing the common technology platform for the first time. The new game engine will be used for FINAL FANTASY XIII, a new MMORPG under development, and other titles in the future. In this talk, Taku will describe the whole process of the engine development; why now, why not third party engine, what is unique, how it is being developed, what were challenges, etc. You’ll be able to see the technological essence of FINAL FANTASY development."

Details are scare - will it be based around Final Fantasy, or maybe even Kingdom Hearts, or could it be based around an entirely new franchise altogether? We don't know, but it will almost assuredly be appearing on the PlayStation 3.

We'll keep you updated as soon as more information about this extremely exciting news is released from the vaults.

I'm sorry for crushing your hopes and dreams. :[

Look at it this way, by the time it comes out, the PS3 might actually be in a price-range that isn't utterly ridiculous.

If it's better than FFXI, that would be an improvement.

Though I think if the price is reasonable, it would do well. But the PS3 is so expensive already. Right now, this isn't worth it, to me.

Shut up! XI is amazing... the only thing wrong with it, is that it takes awhile to level up.. but at least its based on player skill and not equipment like WoW ;p *is playing XI as we speak*

Unlike some people I gave it more than a chance to see if i like it.. as in played it more than 5 levels.

I don't have the monetary or time investment to play three MMORPGs, especially since I am so happy with the two I have. FFXI is just not my type of game.

Keep it civil, please. That was completely uncalled for.

As for what MMOs we play; World of Warcraft and Guild Wars.

FFXI has it's merits for those willing to put in the time investment, and so does World of Warcraft. Nobody is "knocking" anything. It's a matter of preference.

"If it's better than FFXI, that would be an improvement." would be considered knocking ;p.

And I play GW too ;O and dieing for GW2

And if that sounded hostile, I really didnt mean it to sound like that. Its just how I normally talk. So, I apologize.

(But I do get tired of people placing their opinions as fact, Switch does it almost everyday I see him.)

Meh.
Im agreeing with Corrine here.
I hope it's had more thought that Xi did, and they need to remember, they have WoW AND GW to compete with.

well the game came out before both of them.. so they cant drastically change the gameplay. But FFXI has by FAR the most content and story. Just with FFXI you actually hae to work with people and not let bots do all the work (a la gw), or go through the game without confronting people (a la wow).

plus i like to make friends i can almost assure wont hop servers
