Some may remember a couple of a fiasco a couple of months ago when gamers were notified that the guitar peripheral in Guitar Hero wouldn't be compatible with the similarly styled Rock Band, and vica versa.
Gamers worried that the increasing popularity of this music games will lead to more compatibility problems need not worry though; Sony has sat down with the leader developers of the current and future titles to ensure that their instruments will be compatible across all titles.
"For the past several months, we have been working closely with Neversoft and Activision, Harmonix and Konami to ensure that PlayStation 3 guitars and drum sets will all feature a basic level of gameplay compatibility.
For the most part, this means that the titles with musical peripherals will work with the other’s software. A few specific examples include: Guitar Hero: World Tour’s guitars and drums will work with Rock Band 2 and Konami’s Rock Revolution software.
And yes, you guessed it, Rock Band 2’s guitar and drum set will work with Guitar Hero: World Tour and with Rock Revolution.
Conversely, Rock Revolution’s drum set will work with both Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2.
In addition, Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2 will both support the SingStar microphones."
Whether the companies will be generous enough to extend this cross-title compatibility to Microsoft's console is unknown, but Sony deserve plenty of credit for convincing developers to make their instruments work on more than just their own games.
It's a win-win arrangement for consumers and music gamers alike.

Wow, Sony used it's muscle for something good ^_^
Heres hoping that the developers follow suit on the 360. |

I agree with Boa.

It would be unwise for MS not to do so. It may be a bit of extra effort, but a small thing sometimes have long-lasting affects, particularly because of how popular music games are. Good on Sony for addressing this consumer concern. <3 |

Haha. I read this on the forum home and finished the sentence as such:
"Sony convinces devs to make decent exclusives for their console"
Anyway, this was a pleasant suprise. And if they don't extend compatibility to the 360, there will be uproar.
Well, I will scream. |

I'm actually kind of surprised that they only just decided to do this.
Though it is a really good idea, of course. :) |

It's win for the consumers, that way they don't have to dish out for extra guitars and instruments every time a new game comes out. |
