Sonic the Hedgehog finally comes to Super Smash Bros. Brawl

The rumours have proved to be true. Sega’s notorious blue hedgehog has been stirring up a lot of gossip recently: Last year, Shigero Miyamoto (father of Mario, LoZ, Star Fox, and other Nintendo games) mentioned in a Tips & Tricks magazine interview that he’d love to see Sonic the Hedgehog added to the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Brawl, if he recieved Sega’s approval, but it wasn't unveiled until this week that Sonic will, in fact, make it into the roster!

The game, which has been planned for release this December 3, has been delayed; it will not be released until January ‘08 in Japan and Europe. The rescheduled date for North America has not been revealed.

While Nintendo will take a blow from the lack pre-holiday sales for SSBB, the widening pool of added characters makes a delay no big mystery. And quite honestly, it’s better they get development right before letting out such an anticipated title as this. Metal Gear Solid’s Snake? And now our blue friend Sonic? Methinks it’s best to give Nintendo some space on this one.

With SSBB's online multiplayer features, including a multiplayer adventure mode in addition to battles, the game will take advantage of the best aspects of the Wii system. It seems Nintendo's making all the greatest choices for this title, and Sonic's just very delicious icing on the cake.

Sonic the Hedgehog made his way into gamers’ hearts first on the Sega Megadrive way back in 1991. For you old enough to remember that, that nostalgia alone may be enough to make Super Smash Bros. Brawl very, very worth checking out… whenever it comes out. Come on, Nintendo!

Another delay via Nintendo, not too surprising maybe they are trying to make room for the other games that have been set to come out and make the game as perfect as they can. It is about time they confirm it maybe they can add the Blue Bomber in, that would be awesome. I kinda figured A+B=C after Sonic and Mario Olympics so naturally I figured Sonic would be going this direction too.

I remember the days of people saying this would happen and laughing it off as rumor and hearsay but now it's official. I still can't fully believe it though. If his speed and build up attacks are in the game I'm calling cheats.

Ooooooooh, nice!

I knew it would happen. I told them all, but they wouldn't believe me! They thought I was crazy! Insane! NOW WHO WAS RIGHT?!

*hyperventilates*

This is good news. Very good news indeed.

Whats the bet that Super Sonic will be a hidden character? Pretty high, I'm guessing. And possibly another Sonic franchise character, such as Knuckles or Tails...

Watching the video, Super Sonic is Sonic's super attack. Sorry to burst your bubble Words. The question on my mind is whether we'll see Robotnik (Egg Man for some of you), Tails and Knuckles. I don't think we need to see Amy or Shadow, but if you're putting Sonic in, there better be Tails at least. Then again, it took two rounds of Smash with DK going it alone until they threw in Diddy.

I personally didn't want to see Sonic in the game, but I didn't want to see Snake either. The fact that Snake's next game, MGS4 is going to be for PS3 makes me sad inside. Why is Nintendo trying to popularize a character that their supporters won't be able to play as without buy a Sony machine. Gay. Sonic doesn't fit for me because Sega used to promote Sonic as their iconic rival to Mario. Mario won. Mario games sold better and Sega tanked. Kill Sonic for good I say. His games will never be as good as Mario's again, and he doesn't deserve the treatment he will undoubtedly get from being in this game.

I don't believe any other Sonic characters are going to be in the game - at least, none have been announced.

I think that it's very smart for Sony to have Snake in SSBB - precisely for the reason it bothers you. Lots of people have the Wii. Lots of people will buy SSBB. MGS4 is something Sony *needs* to be successful, because if it doesn't get people a teensy bit more interested in the PS3, nothing will. I'm more surprised that Nintendo wants Snake in this game, but if it brings some MGS fans over to their console, they would benefit from it as well.

It's good for both companies, if it goes as they plan it.

If I remember right, there's a new support character item. Does kinda what it says on the tin, brings you in a support character. Perhaps some more sonic characters there?
