With Rock Band due for release next Tuesday, Harmonix finally revealed details on the game's downloadable content.

Rock Band will feature pre-selected three-song packs for download, similar to Guitar Hero, but will cost less; $5.49 (440 Microsoft points on Xbox Live). Initial Songs will also be available to download individually for $1.99.

Future songs will be sold individually for as little as $.99 (80 Microsoft points), to as much as $2.99 (240 points), depending on the songs in question. Harmonix have stated that "the vast majority" of these songs will be at the $1.99 price point though.

Harmonix also provided the release schedule for the first five weeks of Rock Band's launche, all of which can be viewed below.

The opening week alone will be highlighted by track packs by Metallica, The Police, and Queens of the Stone Age (which should make our resident QOTSA lover, Corrine, very happy), with highlights such as Black Sabbath and David Bowie to follow.

Downloaded tracks will be integrated into all of the game's modes once they're downloaded, and will be playable online as long as your friends also have the tracks downloaded onto their 360 / PS3.

The PS2 version (obviously) won't support downloadable content.

Wow, it's not even out over here, and they're doing all that.

Nice load of songs, I wonder what the price will be over here?

Also, I wonder how long they plan on doing this for, I would love an entire back catalouge of awesome music to play in Rock Band.
