Japanese industry superstar and Team Ninja main man Tomonobu Itagaki announced today that, after the release of the upcoming Ninja Gaiden II on Xbox 360, the developer has no plans for any future instalments of the franchise.

"Personally I think we were able to create the definitive 3D game in this series so I’m not planing on making any other games in the series," Itagaki said through a translator. "So I hope fans treat this as a swan song for the franchise.

"I think we were able to achieve everything we wanted with this game so anything else would be extraneous."

Watch as six months down the line, with sales of the title flying through the roof, he suddenly "changes his mind" and decides a Ninja Gaiden III is a very worthwhile idea.

For fans of this series, I'm saddened to hear this news. Personally, it doesn't
affect me one way or the other. I've always thought people made them out
to be better than they actually are.

I never understood why developers say "yeah, no, no more of these games" and then later recant what they said. I mean, why not just say "another game isn't in development at this time, but we're not counting it out for the future"? Much less backpedalling afterwards.

Try telling that to Hideo Kojima.

He's been "retiring" from the Metal Gear series since Metal Gear Solid 2.

....Odd.
*shrugs* It wont happen. There's no money left in the DoA pot, so they'll use this more.
I hope they do, because I like it. <3
