A few days ago, Nintendo compiled a complete list of upcoming releases for the Nintendo DS and the Wii up to the end of Summer.
Those hoping for the Wii to step away from it's casual gaming focus and embrace "traditional" gaming will be sadly disappointed though. It looks like casual gaming is here to stay.
The list isn't entirely lacking, with a pinch of some potentially great titles (No More Heroes, anyone?) appearing throughout, but anyone looking for some truly ground-breaking stuff in the next six months will probably have to look elsewhere for the next few months.

You know, I started to post this very bit of news late yesterday, but I didn't.
It wasn't because I couldn't be arsed, but when I ran down the list, I really
didn't see any titles that I thought were of any consequence.
Oh well, crap games have to go somewhere, I suppose, and Nintendo is a
good a home as any.
Although, that Agatha Christie game is awfully tempting. |

The recommendations I would pass out for the Wii
Bomberman Land from Hudson
No More Heroes from Ubisoft
Destroy All Humans: Big Willy Unleashed from THQ (I think this a joke on the Wii, itself, and now I am scared)
Super Smash Bros. Brawl from Nintendo
Worms: A Space Oddity from THQ
Okami from Capcom
OPOONA from KOEI CORPORATION
Rygar: The Battle of Argus from Tecmo, Inc.
Mario Kart Wii with Wii Wheel from Nintendo
LEGO: Indiana Jones from LucasArts
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed from LucasArts
No More Heroes is the one I keep forgetting in most of my Wii Rants, I pray it is good. Okami, whether, it does good or bad, there is always the PS2 version:lol: . OPOONA, I just picked because it sounds interesting and might be an original game done by Koei, which would be a first since the NES days:lol: . Worms, obvious. Rygar, because he is a classic Tecmo character. Star Wars The Force Unleashed is one I have had my eye on as I like to see what happens when the forces goes WTF .
The recommendations I would pass out for the DS
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin from Nintendo/Intelligent Systems
River King: Mystic Valley from Natsume Inc.
Harvest Moon DS Cute from Natsume Inc.
FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES: Rings of Fate from Square Enix
Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword from Tecmo, Inc.
Final Fantasy IV DS
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
Myst from Empire Interactive
Most of these I just recommend for the occasional time waster but some might do extremely well. Maybe Myst like it's PC counterpart will bring out the best in the DS's limited graphical capabilities like Ninja Gaiden and those Square Enix titles. However, I am getting ticked off by kid tested, mother approved license games and other shit coming out. This makes me want a P... S... P...! |

Its reasons like THIS that make it hard for me to take the DS seriously. I mean, COME ON!!.. how many "Brain/Puzzle/Sudoku" type games is it going to take to stop them from making more? That and the majority of the REST of their market seems to be dominated by "puppy, kitty, and horses" games.... its like a gigapet threw up on the design teams desk or something.
The Assasins Creed game seems a bit refreshing... however I'm still having trouble letting myself like the one that came out for the 360 and PS3... a bit repetative.
On the OTHER hand, I like that the wii is aiming toward casual gaming. Its really cornered its own nitch market and bringing many people who never played games into the whole scene. PLUS it really cant handle most of the games the "hardcore" gamers want to play. It was made for what it is doing... not for unreal tournament or Call of Duty 4. |

Super Smash, Baroque, Dragon Quest Swords, Okami, Castle Shikigami III (HOLY CRAP!), KOF Orochi, Heavenly Guardian Cooking Mama Cook Off 2, Rygar and Mario Kart are the standouts to me on the Wii. Only a few of those would be considered casual.
But since casual gamers are now going to start dominating the market, it's only a matter of time before publishers have to start making their product better.
EDIT: New Super Dodgeball is being developed by ARC System Works (Guilty Gear) This intrigues me. |
