It's no secret that Mass Effect would be privy to some downloadable content after it was released, but many have been wondering exactly what form this new content would take.

BioWare has been quiet for a while now, but have finally decided to release some solid details, and it's looking to be more than just some lazy extra content.

The first downloadable pack, entitled "Bring Down the Sky", will be an entirely unique story to the game, much like an episode of a TV show.

The patch will introduce a new alien species, the Batarians, with a story centred around a group of Batarian extremists who have hijacked an asteroid station and set it on a collision course with the colony world Terra Nova. Not surprisingly, it's your job as Commander Shepard to see what doesn't happen.

The new downloadable content is estimated to provide at least two hours of playtime (which will earn you 50 gamerpoints if you complete it), and will only set back fans a generous 400 Microsoft points.

It goes live on Xbox Live on March 10th.
