Following quickly in the footsteps of Capcom with Street Fighter II, Midway are set to bring one of the 2D renditions of possibly their most lucrative franchise, Mortal Kombat, to the Xbox-Live Marketplace.
Most of us gamers are more than well aware of the huge level of interest and anticipation currently surrounding Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, many of us being just as eager to get our hands on it. With the game officially released yesterday, Midway couldn't have choosen a better time (and clearly intended it so) to announce that one of the original 2D incarnations, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, will be avaliable for download on the Xbox-Live Marketplace come the start of November, though no official price has been announced as of yet.
What's more surprise is the fact that Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, which only contains a large selection of past characters from the series, was choosen over Mortal Kombat Trilogy, which every character from the series up to that point.
Maybe next time, eh?

Well, Trilogy was introduced on several different consoles, all of whom were doing something different with the game (different hidden characters, different stage fatalities, etc.). It'd be harder for Trilogy to be re-released on the X-Box unless Microsoft were to give it its own little spin. UMK3, however, is more uniform. In fact, I think an arcade-perfect port is to be included with the Armageddon Premium pack.
Still, this is great news. The oldies never go out of style. |
