Although many gamers continue to criticise a lack of originality and drive from the gaming industry, nothing could be further from the truth. Us gamers have never had it better. Which is why Mirror's Edge deserves your attention.
Consider how first person games have been constructed over the last 10 years. You see the world through the eyes of another. But in reality, your viewpoint is little more than a disembodied camera; how often does it feel like you're actually
moving through this world? There is no true sense of movement; the weight of your feet, the rush of adrenalin in your lungs.
Mirror's Edge is a game that aims to rectify this unnatural sense of disembodiment that we've taken for granted over the last decade and more of the first person gamestyle, and it aims to be nothing less than original.
Developed by DICE, and published by Electronic Arts, Mirrors Edge will create a game where movement is what matters. Inspired by the charismatic free-running art of
parkour, the aim of the main antagonist will not be to gun down as many people as possible, but simply to get to her destination. Whether this requires you to vault over rooftops or jump under pipes, or simply run as fast as you can, the aim will be to push your body as hard as you can to reach your destination.
Guns will exist, but they are little more than an afterthought; when your clip runs out, you will be back to use your legs (and if necessary, your fist) to plan your escape. When you jump, your arms and legs will move accordingly, as so will your head.
Those of you who suffer from motion sickness; consider yourself warned.
Colour will be your guide. In a city sanitised to a level of obsession, bright primary colours will direct you in your escape. Red and orange will be the most prominent colour, showing you at a glance were you need to go and how you need to get there.
Think this all sounds a little far fetched? If that's not enough to impress you... well, just give the screenshots a glance.
Mirror's Edge is due out on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC sometime in late 2008.

I have heard a little bit about this game and I am kind of hyped for it. Looks to be an interesting entry in the FPS genre. |

This is the first time I've heard of this. It really sounds interesting; we'll have to keep updated on how well this pushes the limits of the FPS genre. Will the sense of movement be natural or will it just seem strange? Hmmmm. I'm definitely wanting to play this. |

This sounds quite interesting, another reason for me to lament my lack of money. xD
Can't wait to see how it develops. |

Good premise; I'll definately be checking this one out later this year. Although I must admit I did get a little vertigo when I saw the screenshot with nothing between the dude and the ground except a tiny steel beam |
