To celebrate Xbox Live's 5th birthday, Microsoft unveiled plans to release original Xbox titles on Xbox Live. Although the gaming community in general is clearly excited to hear about this new addition, a number of problems have begun to creep through...

With numerous reports of bugs and graphical hitches cropping up in the Xbox Originals launch titles (which currently include Halo, Fable, and Burnout 3: Takedown), due to emulation of the original Xbox hardware, Xbox Live programming director Larry Hryb has since confirmed on his Major Nelson blog something that many have gamers have been curious about...

Xbox Originals games will not have achievements or gamerscores built into them.

I have gotten quite a few questions about yesterday’s Xbox Originals announcement. Specifically, folks want to know if these games will have additional functionality like Achievements and Gamer score. The answer is no. “These are the original games that were created before Xbox 360. In order to preserve the integrity of the original gaming experience they provide, they will have the features available at the time of their initial release.” I hope that clears that up.

Edit:
(I posted the following in the comments, but I wanted to make sure you all saw it)
I know it's probably not what you wanted to hear, but I thought it would be best to get clear up an misunderstanding up right up front. I'll talk more about it on my show this week. Would it have been cool? Sure it would ...but as many folks have noted, for a variety of reasons it's just not possible.

An odd decision, to be honest - Xbox Live Arcade, many of which are old classics, have online play and achievements built into them - and a choice likely to disappoint a lot of gamers.

Along with the numerous reports of glitches and problems, the Xbox Originals idea may turn out be a far less enticing idea than it is hoping to be.

Yeah, Not going to pay for a game, for it to be on my harddrive.
And besides, with Xboxes crashing and dying all over the place. I dont want a game as big as say "Morrowind" to go away, and have to be downloaded all over again.

I dont see why they don't want to, it seemed like an inevitable move....*shrugs* maybe it was just me.
