The latest update for Metal Gear Online also comes with the opportunity to download for a fee the new Gene Expansion pack.
Included is female characters, two new unique characters and some new maps as well as a few other features.
This new expansion comes at the same time as the game update to version 1.10
The update includes slight modifications to the weapons such as some DP (Drebin Point) prices and range of the stun knife. Some of these changes are welcome while others are not such as the Stun Knifes range now being very short and many gamers style of plays suffering for it.
Also with the update are two new skills for characters to learn and level.
The Gene Expansion has three new maps:
Virtuous Vista / South America Power Station
Tomb of Tubes / Underground Waterway
Coppertown Conflict / City of Sorrow
Each provides new challenges and arenas for combat.
The two new unique characters are Meryl Silverburgh and Johnny (AKIBA)
Their use is randomly allocated to a player during a match where their use has been allocated.
The two last features of note are the new Survival mode and the Rewards shop.
Earn reward points by playing in survival mode to buy new equipment for your characters.
And last but by no means least you can now have a female character. Though you can not edit the gender of an existing character.
Now for the gripes.
Anyone who has checked the MGO shop before will now the only way to buy things is with either a Visa or Mastercard no other forms of payment are accessible which a lot of fans have an issue with especially as the Playstation Store supports any form of card even basic cashcards. Thus a lot of MGO players are requesting the MGO related material for sale be placed on the PSN, myself included.
Also the fact that we have to buy these expansions is very annoying and the fact that the majority of players are on the servers for those who do not have the expansion means that Konami may have to rethink their policies if they want to keep MGO going.

I dont like the idea of having to pay for a female character, but I do know you get an extra slot.
And only Visa or MC, I would have thought, with the sucess, I would have thought they would have accepted Paypal. |

Konami is showing some slight lack of intelligence when it comes to MGO.
There have been so many problems of late too, the access to the shop is limited and the servers for the reward shop and shop are far too small and keep getting overloaded and there have been problems with people not getting their items after paying for them and to top it off the first survival matches have been canceled.
They seriously need to get some bigger servers. |

Konami seems to have shown a lack of intelligence in many ways these days.

This is a silly restriction. Sure, a lot of gamers do have access to credit card, but there's still a vast number that don't and by making this restriction they are effectively limiting the amount of people able to purchase it and thus the number of people who actually do purchase it are signficiantly reduced.
That is a looooooooooong sentence. xD
Btw, good article. <3 |

Thanks Dawny.
Yeah between the hard to access payment methods and the massive amount of server failures Konami is in for a rough time.
Plus they totally gimped the Stun Knife by making it's range so short. |
