Manhunt 2 suffers the banhammer again; Rockstar baffled

The Manhunt 2 drama seems to have no end it sight.

A few days ago, the UK High Court decided that the Video Appeals Committee, which had recently granted the game an 18-certificate release in the country, must reconsider its decision.

Rockstar Games, not surprisingly, has hit back at the High Court's decision in the Royal Courts of Justice. The company believes the game (which is already on sale in the US) has perfect justification for being released in the UK.

In a statement, the company said, "We believe the VAC decision was correct and do not understand the court's decision to expend further public resources to censor a game that contains content well within the bounds established by the BBFC's 18-plus ratings certification."

The same seven members of the Video Appeals Committee that originally approved the game for release will reconvene... again... and will reconsider their verdict.

This decision is understood to be imminent, and we should know more in the near future.

AGAIN? It's beyond ridiculous. Rockstar is completely right - it IS an absolute waste of resources, and I'm sure if it's banned then it'll just be another circus with Rockstar contesting the banning.

I just hope that the VAC has enough sense to keep it available in the UK.

People... we need to do away with folks like the VAC and the ESRB when it comes to telling people what CAN and what CAN'T be included in a video game. It's rediculous. I did work at a Gamestop and I completely understand why games should be rated as parents have NO clue what any particular title holds. But that is where it s hould END. Its one thing to give parents a heads up on what to expect, its a whole different game when you start making rules and regulations that dictate what IS and what IS NOT allowed. It limits creativity in the sense that you will never be able to break some boundries with games and will be forced to exploit loopholes in order to get points across - instead of putting your ideas in without a filter.

TOO much violence is not neccicarily creative.. I understand, along with gratuitous sexual content and the like, but if its so offensive NOBODY WILL BUY IT... simple fact. And when your sales drop you will be forced to edit your own content to adhere to what the gamers respond to. This is a much better idea then giving the gamers a limited field of play from which to pick their favourites.

I own, but never particularly enjoyed, the first Manhunt game. I didn't intend
to buy MH2, but because I want to support Rockstar games in their quest to
sell games and give the middle finger to government censors, today I
went out and did this:

Now, here's hoping the game doesn't suck completely.

Fuck this shit. There should be laws against this. What's the issue? Putting an 18 BBFC certificate on this, coupled with all the bad hype it's been getting, makes medicinal heroin more available to 9-year-olds. It's an overt suppression of our freedom, and it's disgusting.

I wasn't going to buy it anyway, but if they ban it I'll hack my PS2 so I can download a copy. There's always a way, and at least Rockstar's way makes the country some money.

AppleSauce:

I did a little CSI work with that photo, and I have learned the following about you:

1) you seem very intense about Manhunt 2... like.... VERY intense haha

2) you don't have to live with those crazy brittish censors (not that the censors here in the U.S. are much better)

3) You own (and are using) at LEAST 3 consoles: The Wii, PS2, Xbox360

4) You wear a gold ring on your left index finger which may be indicitive of the fact you are Married..... I'll have to wait till your background check comes in before I can confirm this though!

HAHA.. Love the pic man you ROCK! I'm suprised you aren't a moderator or something yet.

.. LOVED the podcast by the way!

ManicGamer -

Yes, I am married to a beautiful and wonderful woman.

I do own a Wii, PS2, and 360. But, I also own a DS, a PSP,
a Dreamcast, a Genesis, and an old but still fully functional
NES.

No, I'm not really very intense at all about the Manhunt series.
I hadn't even played MH2 when I took that pic. I played it later
and...meh.

Glad you liked the podcast. I was less than thrilled with aspects
of it, myself, but we're going to get much better as we go along.
It was our first show, so it was meant to be more of a learning
experience than anything else. Some things worked. Some didn't.
That's what we're trying to figure out. But, thank you.

The more the censors try to kill this game publically, the more the public hears about it. Don't they know what that does? *sighs*
