If the recent ad on gaming retail giant Gamestop's website is to be believed, the much anticipated final instalment of Hideo Kojima's action/stealth franchise, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, will be available to PS3 owners on June 17, 2008.

Will this be the shot in the arm the PS3 desperately needs, or will gamers just hold out for the 360 version? Given the recent buzz in blog and gaming sites all over the net about PS3's impending resurgence, coupled with the machine's undeniable horsepower, this could very well be the point at which the PS3 really starts to come into its own.

However, it must be said that the competition does still have an ace in the hole - the sheer force of cosmic geek power that is Xbox Live. Time will tell.

Hopefully the game won't be delayed any further. I've never played the series, but I'm excited for the fans of it.

Well, it will keep those who have a PS3 over the Summer Gamer Blues busy. I would tell it would be a must buy but me have very little series experience but if you wondering a PS3 game to buy, Ratchet and Clank:TOD will make both you and your kid happy indeed and some of the games are starting to get better.

And as for a 360 version:

Despite Konami's insistence that Metal Gear Solid 4 is a PS3 exclusive, the rumour of an Xbox 360 iteration refuses to lay down and die.

UPDATE: In a further extension to the saga, Konami has reportedly responded with this statement to TheGameReviews.com to the new rumour: "For the record, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is a PlayStation 3 exclusive and there are no plans to develop an Xbox 360 version of the game."

PS3 needs this exclusive; here's hoping it stays that way. I fear it might go the way of DMC4, and be made for Xbox as well, but I hope not. Perhaps it'll be put out there a few months after it's out for PS3, who knows? As of now this is accurate but these things are unpredictable :O

If it does lose it exclusivity, it won't be for a good while after it launches.

Good to see they have a solid release date. Lets just hope they can stick to it.

It's nice to see a release date, but I think they only did it to ease the minds of fans who have been clamoring for a true release date and wishing they'd stop delaying the game. I hope they're not sacrificing anything by trying to set a concrete release date.
