After a gruelling two months of organisation, planning, and regular instances of ADHD, Video Game Chat is finally proud to introduce the first instalment of our new, (semi) regular podcast feature!

Thanks to the hard work of Chance, Jeremy, Samuel, Andrew, and Kelz (along with a little assistance from myself), the first segment is finally complete for the listening pleasure of the members and community alike.

To download the podcast to your computer, or listen to it directly through your browser, just click on the following link: http://forums.videogamechat.net/podcast/ep1.mp3

Features in our first podcast include:

- A round-up of the most recent news from all corners of gaming culture, courtesy of Chance and myself (Michael)

- Andrew discusses the relevance of the Wii in the current industry climate

- Ryan looks back at retro classics from yesteryears.

- Tech Porn. 'Nuff Said

- Samuel takes a look at Ace Combat 6 for the Xbox 360, and the Halo 3 Map Pack.

- Kelz discuses her recent experiences at a Magic the Gathering Pre-release.

A few closing words from our resident slave driver, Chance (otherwise known as Applesauce Ninja):

"After two months since its inception, I am proud to announce the launch of VGC's first official podcast.

Thank you so much to everyone who contributed content and time to the project. We couldn't have done it without any of you. Michael, Sam, Kelz, Jeremy, Andrew - I haven't the words. Thank you all so much.

This thing will get better as we go along, but I think we're off to a fine start. Enjoy."

And you know what? After all of that editing, there's one segment that I
retooled with a new intro, and I forgot to put the son of a %$&*# in there.
I'll probably retool it and make it available. Podcast 1.5, so to speak. Dammit.

OMG, I'm listening to this right nows! XD

Michael, you sounded a bit... slurred. Were you drinking Jack Daniels to help your courage? And the music in the background during your monolouge was a bit too much. I had to really concentrate on what you were saying, because the music was a bit loud.

I'm not sure you guys are allowed to use the various songs you used in between segments. Music from, well, anything, is usually copyrighted.

It started of pretty good, but it felt a bit lacking towards the end. Then again, you can't please 'em all. The Magic The Gathering segment was a bit too short as well. I'm not really into MTG at all, and found it difficult to pay attention.

i have one gripe about it... It was all Segmented, and no segment had more than one person. That made it kinda boring ;(. It needs bantering. Bantering is what makes most podcasts fun!

Group banter will be coming, although personally I think they're overrated. As long as the person has enough charisma, that works for me.

Personal highlights for me were everything done by Chance (*laughs*), Jeremy (sorry about that. ) bit on Sephiroth, and Andrew. Sam's bit was good, although slightly rushed.

Only gripe I had was that it ended way too abruptly.

Good work all round people.

Magus: The music is fine, as we're not making profit from it. If it wasn't okay, every single YouTube fan-video with some video clips and a song over it would be liable for court action.

I say it worked really well considering, though I do admit the music in Michael's bit is a louder than it should be and I have to ask: WHY THE PAC MAN FEVER SONG? WHY?! I could see the nostalgic value though:lol: .

I have to admit everything worked pretty good, SwitchXA did an excellent job on being fair and balance on the debate of the Wii, Sam, you surprised me and did pretty good, Chance, you were just plain awesome with all the editing and sound effects, Michael, you went into great detail with the news, Kelz, I think you need a segment you need to work with and you could truly shine as you did with the MTG bit,and me, I did great, Rarr!

I agree completely that the ending was abrupt, and I fully expected to hear
that complaint. No doubt about it. However, in my defense, after hours of editing, especially when I was barely able to hold my eyes open (due to poor sleep the night before), I was out of segments, and ready to just wrap it up.

I thought about a couple of more days delay, but I then thought better of it. My thought line was "well, it's going to be rough, and this thing's been too long in coming as it is, so let's put it out there, receive some constructive critiques, and make it better and better from here on out."

Now, about the music being too loud during Michael's segment - I chose the
Assassin's Creed music from the Jerusalem area (because it was from the game series, and it was all that was available). The thing is, everyone's audio setup is different, so trying to set the audio levels to be perfect for everyone is a next to impossible chore. While it might have been loud to some, I could
only judge its sound according to mine, where it sounded nicely mixed. I wish I was working with studio quality equipment, but I am unfortunately not in such a position to do so.

My biggest gripe right now is related to audio levels. We have to find a way
to make them better. I'll research that and see what can be done with what
we have to work with.

Oh, and about the copyrighted music - I'm pretty sure that only applies if you are trying to make money from your project. As long as it's not for profit, I believe it's okay. But, I'll read more into that as well. It's a valid concern.

Now, why Pac Man Fever? Why not? Just wait till I whip out Do the Donkey Kong in a future episode.

In the future, I would love to have some help with the editing. We all need
to send segments over to one another for review before they're assembled in order to properly gauge how well they're done. As I said, we could tell each other how the levels sound on our rigs and try to find the right balance. This is a VGC show, so there needs to be a lot of community involvement in getting it done.

All in all, I'm...okay with how it turned out for being the first show. I said in the intro that it was going to be rough, so I didn't lie to anyone. Learning what worked and what didn't is how we're going to polish this thing.

Still, good job to everyone involved. Your work was appreciated greatly. Thank you all so much.

Well Chance, for what it was, it was excellent.
Of course its to be expected that the first podcast wouldn't be flawless.

Sadly, that doesn't make any sense. X_x

Michael, you sound exactly like i always pictured... this makes me smile, it also makes me smile that even though you arnt Words Of Ivory on the forum any longer, eveyone is still calling that.
Mobius Zero, very nicely done. Love the looooooooongs XP, and your intro for the sephiroth thing, that was great
Andrew, i like your views and its true, mii games are very popular and it is odd, also the lack of games is highly disapointing i agree.

Kelz, I am saying that you should could probably do any of the segments and it would truly bring out the talent you show as you did an excellent job with the MTG bit. In short, I could see you in future podcast as a main host or sub-host (as in you would show up more often than a guest host or take over someone's segment if someone is unable to do it) or co-host with someone on one of the segments which is what I meant.

Arigato gozimasu. It means a lot to me (and my fragile sense of self-worth) that you see me as talented. I would be more than happy to show up in future podcasts, if you would have me.

A seriously excellent job, guys- especially considering that you are all podcasting virgins. Despite being a non-gamer, I still find myself compelled to listen (although this may have something to do with the podcast being an accentfest). Nevertheless, good work!
