Grand Theft Auto IV trailer unveiled

It's common practise to reveal details, screenshots and videos well before a game is due to be released, but Rockstar, in a move more akin to the movie industry, have been keeping GTAIV under very tight wraps for a while now. Now, with just five months left until the release of the game, the first trailer has finally been revealed.

Those who are a fan of the series may notice something about this video that may be cause for concern, if it's not approached properly. A quick glance over the trailer makes it's pretty obvious the game is going to be the set in New York, a big step away from the previous game's approach of using fictional cities which parody real world location.

One has to worry that Take Two's recent troubles have made Rockstar soft and unwilling to take the same controversial risks though, by resorting to a real life location lacking in the company's unique parody stylings, but screenshots seem to indicate that there'll still be some of the company's trademark wit underneath New York's dreary exterior.

Still, if these are real in-game shots (as many journalists seem to think is the case), and not pre-rendered sequences, this could be very exciting indeed - the whole thing oozes a level of detail that's never been seen in any game of its like before.

Alas, this video is about as much detail as we're going to get on the game for now, as Rockstar is determined to keep its mouth shut about the rest of the game for the forseeable future.

Enjoy!

Update: Grand Theft Auto IV will in fact be set in Liberty City, the setting which made up Grant Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories. The visual similarities to the real New York (which this time around are quite more true to the city it's based on, New York), are purely cosmetic.

I say "meh" to GTA >:

I never really was much of a fan of the series, so this announcement doesn't give me much of anything =P

It looks beautiful, very impressive. But unless it has a really good storyline, I don't ever plan on getting it. I don't really care that it's set in a real city, that means nothing to me. :P Still, I hope to see more about what's IN the game, before and after it is released.

But I saw a Flat Iron building! Purely cosmetic? You don't get much more cosmetic than a game with such a thin plot as GTA <3

In Soviet Russia, car steals you!

Eh, haven't tried a GTA since GTA2. XD I might give it a rent if I'm bored, but I get the feeling that Rockstar is riding a wave of controversy.
