Though VGC would not usually cover news of this nature, we know there are many, many Firefly fans here... and this little piece of news is likely to make you weep with joy, or cry bloody murder...

Browncoats have been begging for the return of the series ever since it's short lived run back in 2002, and Multiverse are the company who has been given the greenlight by Fox Licensing to bring the show back, not on the small screen or big screen, but the PC screen.

Multiverse co-founder and executive producer Corey Bridges had this to say on the subject, "Television series can be really good properties to turn into MMOs, because when you make a TV series, not only do you need great characters, but you need to create a full, rich, compelling place. If you're doing science fiction, you have to really think it out and create an incredibly rich environment that is compelling in its own right, and worth exploring and going back to week after week. That's what Joss Whedon did with Firefly."

Multiverse hold a unique position in the MMO market. Though largely untested, their arms are to create a multi-game client that can support all their MMOs, hence the company's name. Think of it as an internet browsers for Massively Multiplayer games - you will only need one piece of software to play them all.

It is assumed that the Firefly MMO will be a part of this system as well, though one glance over this news may raise one specific worry... to date, there has been no word on any involvement by Joss Whedon himself, at least not yet. Which begs the question... without his insight, can the game really stay true to the franchise?
