Fallout franchise joins the MMO bandwagon

With Bethesda Softworks hard at work on Fallout 3, original publisher Interplay decides to bring a series, dear to many of us golden oldie gamers, into the online playing field.
It's a lucrative franchise, there's no doubt about that, and Interplay seem confident that theycan make it work... and official announcements are lofty claims.
Current plans are for a 2010 release, with an estimated required budget of... $75 million. For any game, this is quite a hefty sum. That said, Interplay projects that the game will become profitable within two years of it's launch, with estimated revenues of $160 million, assuming it convert 1 million subscribers to it's cause in its first year.
This means two seperate company will be working on two seperate games based on the same franchise, whic means the online arena may not be the only battlefield fans will be fighting each other on, come 2010...

That sounds ambitious. But if they could make it work it sounds like it would be highly successful. That's the kind of cash drop that's hard to recover from.
