Diablo meets Mass Effect meets Lawnmower Man? Too Human for 360

Silicon Knights (Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes) is currently working on a sort of hybrid title for the Xbox 360 which we have covered here in slight detail in the past.

It's name? Too Human.

It looks to incorporate several different aspects from other games while remaining unique to itself in its own right. Actiontrip.com recently did an in-depth review on the unreleased title and it perked my interest, it might also perk yours too (especially if you watch the sci-fi channel at all).

A little info on the storyline and gameplay:

"As far as the main campaign goes, players step into the role of a cybernetically enhanced warrior named Baldur, who finds himself in the middle of a chaotic war-torn world. The ongoing conflict is spreading and threatens entire mankind. To cut a long story short, Baldur enters the fray and has to defend humans from an onslaught of powerful war machines. Frequently outnumbered, Baldur has to rely on his skills, which include both melee and ranged attacks.

The action will take place in third-person and your character will be able to wield weapons like handguns, rifles and lasers, for long-ranged combat, in addition to using melee weapons like pole-arms, swords, hammers and such."

The Diablo/Mass effect reference:

2Apart from slicing enemies and blasting them into oblivion, collecting loot presents another important element in the gameplay. Every gunned down or chopped up enemy leaves certain items behind - armor, weapons, blueprints, etc. Inspired by the Diablo 2 system, the value and rarity of each item is defined by color. Of course, the most powerful items aren't easy to find. You can sometimes collect blueprints and then offer a shit-load of cash to have these items crafted. Apparently, this is something you'll only be able to do between levels. Other items can be improved with runes, which are placed in empty slots. In short, it's an all too familiar system, used in classics like World of Warcraft, Diablo and even the recent 360 hit Mass Effect (which uses a similar principal for weapon upgrade)."

And now for the Lawnmower Man reference:

"There's more to the game than gathering loot. Most of your adventures will occur in a region known as Aesir. Mind you, a parallel plane simply referred to as cyberspace exists alongside the existing world. Venturing through cyberspace mostly denotes exploration and carrying out straightforward tasks in order to overcome obstacles in the "real world." So, if a door is locked in Aesir, you might have to travel to cyberspace and complete a specific task in order to open the door."

Expect more info to be released on the title as it reaches its debut (sometime this year).

Mmmmm... Too Human.

This is definately looking to be one of the major titles for 2008, and one I'm seriously looking forward to playing.

Much has discussed about it's many hybrid style, but I do think that cheapens the game a little. I have a feel that it is going to stand proud on its own two legs for being unique, when it comes out, and not just a mish-mash of ideas from other games.

Here's hoping the story-telling is also up to Silicon Knights always high standards. If it is, I'll be a happy man.

I actually reserved this game randomly, not knowing anything about it. And I'm thinking that it was a good choice. Hearing what I have about it, and especially seeing Michael's enthusiasm for it, I might very well pick it up..... if I have the cash. *laughs* If not, definitely when I can find it used.

If anything, this game is already a grade S title so my thoughts on it are, I really wish for X-Box 360 right now.

Part of me can't wait for it to come out!

... and part of me can't wait to chew through the 7.5 -9.4 gigs of data in the single-player mode and then move on to the multi-player before trading it in at Gamestop for less than 1/2 what I paid for it.

I'm so TORN!

*insert picture of unbalanced scale here*

Haha... but seriously. I'm probably picking it up.
