Dante goes into hiding for Devil May Cry 4

In a rather suprising announcement that may upset many fans, it appears that the ever lovable son of Sparda, Dante (an iconic gaming character if ever there were one), won't be headlining the forthcoming PS3 installment of the Devil May Cry series.

Instead, we have a new upstart, who calls himself 'Nero'.

He's not really as new as you may think. In fact, we've already seen picture of him. The screenshots released so far for the game are apparently not of Dante... feel free to suspend belief at this point, if you want to.

Ignoring the fact that he looks completely identical to Dante, the new guy will apparently bring a little something new to the show, in the form of a newly announced gameplay capability.

Christened the 'Devil Bringer', little is known about the system so far, but producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi had this to say about it, "This is like the throttle and clutch on a motorcycle [pulling the enemy towards and away from you]... The sword has a sort of will of its own. Nero has tuned it himself, turning it into a very powerful weapon. I can't talk about the specifics of the system, but we'd created a new style of game-play for the sword."

As for whether Dante himself will appear at all, Kobayashi responded with some subtle answers when pressed about the issue, "Do you want to be able to play as Dante," he laughed. "In order to proceed through the story, the player's point of view will change but...who knows?"

More than anything, it should be interesting to see just how fans react to the rather surprising removal of Dante as the lead character of the Devil May Cry series, once the game finally hits shelves.

I believe many people are going to ask if Nero is the same as Nelo Angelo/Vergil in the first game. No, he is not because if we all remember Vergil hates using guns because he feels it detracts him as a warrior. I believe that either during a good portion of the game or the end we will probably see why he (Dante) is "evil".

The story of the game is that Nero is trying to resurrect Sparda but he is finding resistance in the form of Sparda's own son, Dante. Dante proves this by killing off the many leaders/generals in Nero's group.

This story has two sides to it so I expect this will increase the amount of time through the game. I believe that the 'Devil Bringer' is Capcom's version of the Kingdom Hearts 2 Trigger Command and God of War's Grapple.

I believe this game will totally rock even though I like to actually see the new gameplay in action via a trailer of sorts which will probably be seen at TGS. So it's buy if I ever get a PS3 with my current budget...

*is a fan*

This seems as confusing as "Tony" in the DMC3 novel. The guy looks like Dante, acts like Dante, but oh, he's not Dante. So what is going on? Are they running out of fresh ideas....or this is a cheap way to get attention towards the upcoming game...Eh.
